$200 and 3 weeks later, and it runs hotter?!?

Thread Starter
This is my first time on the forums. I have been working with a system for two years now through various upgrades. The most recent upgrade i moved from 3/4 tube to 1/2 tube, and added a much larger resivoir. When I started I was expecting much lower temps and I was very much dissapointed. The core were up 10C idle and 30C under full load. Here is the break down of the upgrade.

Old system:

coolermaster HAF x
ek coolstream 140 radiator with 140 fan
swiftec 240 radiator mounted up top (200mm fan)
danger den DD-CPX-Pro pump
dual gtx 280's with heatkiller waterblocks
intel i7 950 with heatkiller waterblock
3/4 inch tube

Changes:

Doubled fluid capacity with new res
new split fitting increased flow
upgraded to 1/2 tube all around
moved 140 rad to the top

The loop is:

Pump splitter cpu>140mm rad>res and Gpu>240mm rad>res

Ive got alot of flow. incomming temps on the rads (even with the cpu at 80C!) is about 39C (room temp is 35) and the resivoir is 36C. I reseated the cpu and checked everything. any ideas?

Res and pump is the only thing that matters in loop order. Pumps are good at pushing, not pulling.

Try reseating the waterblock.

Get proper fans for that 240 it'll have air going through more of the fins.

Pics?!

Edit: Derp, that's a rad res right?!

What TIM are you using?

Pick up some MX-4 and try that. That should drop your temps if your not using a decent thermal paste.

Somethin's plugging up. AKA fans are dusty, or the RAD is, or the fluid heated up at one point and hasn't cooled down since. Just clean the thing. Also see if one of your tubes aren't bent.

Why are you splitting the water? Couldn't you just run a single loop in series rather than parallel? If the splitter is new, it could be affecting pressure in one part or another. If not, the increased tubing diameter could have had a similar effect.

Pics help

Increasing the res size will not make a huge difference. More water just takes longer to heat up and cool down, it will still reach a similar temperature unless you are running some kind of passive rad as a res.

Tubing size also makes very little difference to flow, and therefore performance.

I am interested in what this split fitting is that you mention. Could you either link it or post some pics of your rig?

Edit:

Oh, and welcome to OCN!

Agree increasing flow rate will not net major if any improvement on temps... you are probably not getting the right pressure and flow cause of the splitter try getting rid of it and see if temp return to normal.
