I'm not too experienced and this board has not liked anything I've thrown at it but for getting basic stabillity at 1600MHz RAM required I do the following.
Run CPU in Auto, no unlocked cores. Get the RAM working stable at 1333MHz and get the CPU-NB to 2400MHz. Use x12 multiplier for CPU-NB and manually set HT Link to x10 (the board otherwise raises them together.) Test for stability, you may need to add a little voltage to CPU-NB. Once that is stable then go back and set RAM manually: 1:4 ratio; 9-9-9-24-33-2T; Bump DRAM V to 1.53v (this is one step up from auto for me). Recheck stability, voltages and timing may need adjustment.
Once thats all good then unlock.

For my board, but I read the manual saying that it does support 1600*OC... I know OC means overclock but what about do I need to know to use this ram.

I searched up a thread you asked awhile back but I'm still lost.
Keep reading below... A guy asked pretty much the question as this shortly after you did. (Answer below).

Hey guys thought i'd pick your brains on this... Here is my problem...was told by another user to post this in here, so i hope i dont piss anyone off...

Basically this is my problem. I'm not overclocked any and cannot figure out for the life of me why my RAM is not running at advertised speeds. I tried setting the ratio to 1:4 in the bios and it blue screens when i get to windows after numerous program errors.

I have 2 x 4GB dimms of Mushkin Enhanced Blackline DDR3 PC3 12800 which are supposed to run @ 1600mhz.

When i set them to 1:33 ratio and 1333mhz they run fine, but in windows hwinfo64 is telling me this:

http://i55.tinypic.com/v6nm00.png

What is going on here!?!?!? Is my RAM faulty? Am i doing something wrong? I just reset the bios to default, re-enabled the disabled core on my athlon II x3 and restarted windows, and this is what i'm getting.

I know i'm new here but i really need help with this and i dont really know anyone else that can help. Any advice is very much appreciated!!!!

Screen shots and answers to questions available!!!

I really want to get this solved ASAP!
Answer is below...

That is right on correct^^^ The reason your RAM wasn't working at 1600Mhz bmdc is all due to stability errors. You need to increase the voltages on your RAM. Add by very small increments at a time. It's like stretching your legs. You can't touch your toes immediately after a week of sitting on your butt gaming... Same thing with RAM (lol, what a dumb example).

Report back telling us the results!!! And bmdc, would you like to join the club?

Deadkid, would you like to join the club?

Hope everything goes well bmdc. And qasual, same for you .

MSI 870-G45 Series FAQ
Does this motherboard support SLI?
No, it does not. But people have done special modifications to the board, which enabled SLI to be used.

Is it true that this board is known for many VRM failures.
Yes, but there are ways to lower the chance of VRM failures, listed below:
-Cool your VRMs/MOSFETs with VRM heatsinks. These can be bought from www.frozencpu.com, and some other computer sites.
-Allow for some airflow on the VRMs. Even some moderate case fans blowing in the direction of the VRMs will do.
-Don't push the voltages too high when overclocking. This is where it gets dangerous. Add voltage ONE INCREMENT AT A TIME!

I want to buy 1600Mhz RAM. Will this board support it?
Yes, but read on; The first run with 1600Mhz RAM in it, the CMOS will automatically run the RAM on a 1333Mhz clock. What you will need to do is higher the RAM ratio. Increase the ratio by ONE INCREMENT AT A TIME! If a BSOD (blue screen of death) comes up on the next restart, read Deadkid's post on how to fix this!

Does the CPU +12V connection require 1x4 pin plug, or 2x4 pin plugs?
This board requires 2x4 pin plugs for the CPU +12V connection.

Can the (blue) CPU phase status lights be turned off?
Yes, they can. Go into the BIOS by repeatedly pressing the delete key during post. Then go into __ settings, and __.

How many PCI slots are on this board?
There are 5 PCI sockets on this board... 2x PCI-E x16 (crossfire enabled), 1x PCI-E x1, and 2x PCI sockets.

How much money does this board cost?
Currently, this board goes for $70-$80 (44-50 pound).

Has anyone tried fitting a Mugen Rev B heatsink onto their board ?

I got one for $25 and I'm a little worried, haha!
