Why is my DDR3 RAM running at 667MHz?

I thought 667MHz is for DDR2 RAM? I am pretty clueless about RAM, so some clarification would help.

I looked up my board on Newegg, and it says it only supports DDR3-1333 and DDR3-1600, so what's the deal here?

DDR stands for Double Data Rate. 667x2 = 1333 smile.gif

^ Likely the case smile.gif CPU-Z's memory tab it is similar.

Check CPU-Z....should read 1333 since your ram is really running at 667MHz for 1333MHz effective.

*EDIT* GRR! Too slow!

What does the 3 stand for?

The short explanation (because I can't remember the long one) is that DDR memory (double data rate) is sold as the DDR value, but is read as the single value . So your 667MHz ram is DDR3-1333.
