I bought a 2TB Caviar Black drive in Sept 2010 as a replacement C drive for my PC as the old one was dying.
When I received the new HDD, it was NOT well packaged - just rattling around in a box with a few packing peanuts (which should be totally banned as a packaging material since all that happens is the heavy contents end up against the side of the box). I installed it anyway and did a quick scan for errors. I noticed my new replacement drive starting to get warnings about current pending sectors about a week after purchase, but because I couldn't put the data back on my old drive, in order to return it and put the data somewhere, I bought a second identical 2TB Caviar Black, transferred the data to that, and then did a secure erase of the first one so I could return it.
I got the replacement for the first just in time to have the second one start to go bad on me, so I transferred the data back to the new replacement for the first disk, and erased and returned the second and got back a replacement new one. Since then I've been using both drives in the PC (I do a lot of video editing).
Now (Jan 2012) I am noticing both drives are starting to get errors again. HD tune pro reports 7 current pending sectors and a UDMA CRC error count of 2428, and on the other disk 3 current pending sectors.
So your mileage may vary but my experience isn't that great with these disks.
