[Info] - Intel 2500k/2600k Overclocking Tips - Page 105

The damaging factor would be the volts since the core i7 2500k is only designed to take a certain amount of volts a maximum of 1.4v to 1.5v any higher and it will start to slowly kill the CPU. Which will then degrade it and possibly make it not overclock well anymore and in some cases having to set it back to stock in order for it to remain stable.

so if I could some how get it stable between say 1.4v and 1.49v without it ever going over then i'd probably be okay, like but that's the absolute limit.

I guess it's moot either way, since I just upgraded to a brand new devil's Canyon build and my 2500k is getting retired to under volted, and under clocked to my server to live out the rest of it's life lazily hosting game servers and private cloud files. So these questions are mostly just academic.

I appreciate you answering though.

no one still knows what the absolute max vcore is. some people here claim to have run 1.5v vcore for years with no degradaion even though a few of those were never proven fully stable.
some have claimed degradation on 1.45v vcore and some of those were never proven to be fully stable either.
its a crap shoot.

That makes sense since silicone lottery is a thing, I would be willing to bet average operating temperature has a lot to do with it.

I think the max is higher than that. Mine is 4 years old or so and has run ar 4.6 ghz or higher the entire time. These torture tests that some folks love WILL let the smoke out. And since all electronics are powered by smoke, once the smoke gets out, they don't run any more!smile.gif

stabilitty < reliability.

No one's approval or acceptance is worth smoking my chip.

mule the triple posting 'user' is exactly what im talking about with the 'never proven to be stable people'.
these people think their chip is ok because they have no clue and nothing to back it up with.
mule will also argue all day about his opinion and what is accepted as fact. hence the reason he is set on ignored. i see his name but i dont see his post. that is the only way to deal with ignorance when ignorance can't be reasoned with.

Actually, mine is proven stable DAILY. I can't remember the last time my PC choked. And it's 4 yrs old and has run that whole time at 4.6 or higher. Much of that time it was between 4.8 & 5.

Where did your "maximum voltage" spec come from?

If I set the voltage to about 2.5 volts it will be REAL stable. Do you think it will be reliable?
