[Info] - Intel 2500k/2600k Overclocking Tips - Page 110

I recently went through a slew of over clocking on an ASUS p8p67m-Pro Motherboard with a 2500k

The main differences we should note right of the bat between your board and mine is I *can not* set my vcore, I just have to set the offsets and "guess" where my board is gonna put the juice when I boot it up.

So you'll have an easier time.

What I did was basically left every damn thing at default, LLC was automatic, etc etc ... There is a guide elsewhere on these forums who suggests you turn LLC off, but he did it with the same board you have, not the mATX version I have, so he could set the vcore, where as I couldn't. with LLC off, I had a hard time finding stability, but when I turned it out, it was gravy.

The highest OC I acheived was 5Ghz at 1.5v, totally unsafe, but it was STABLE, so that was fun for a short period of time.

My Daily driver was 4.7Ghz at 1.4v.

How I found it, and how you find any OC on any board with the 2500k is the incrementally increase your vcore, offset and boost voltage by very small amounts.

Set it at something like 4.4, boot it, bench it and stress test it, if it's stable, increase it to 4.5 and so on, until you start crashing, blue screening or locking up. THATS when you start increase voltage, and then ONLY do it sparingly. 0.004 volts at a time, until you find stability again.

Thanks for reading, hope it helps.

p.s. there is a youtube guide that details how to oc a 2500k on your motherboard.

hope it helps

Thanks man. Useful tips. I started this morning and have run about 5 hours of stress tests. I'm going to run blend for a few hours each time and then run it overnight once I think I've hit a sweet spot and then use offset voltage and turn speedstep back on when I'm done.

So far I've found out the chip can do 4.7 at 1.3 vcore but not 4.8. I'm happy with 4.7 and I want to keep the voltage down so 1.3 is good for me. Currently doing tests for 1.295 and so on. Hopefully by the end of the weekend I'll have my ideal vcore for 4.7.

1.3 vcore seems quite low so if I can get anything around or lower than that it would be great. Fingers crossed a 12 hour blend will show it to be stable

12 hour blend stable says a lot but not everything. i and others have crashed at 17 hours into blend.
leave speedstep and all the other power saving features on while you search for your overclock. they have no effect on stability. start with offset you dont have to worry about stress testing twice. there is zero point in doing the same thing twice.
in all honesty i would just start from the point you were at with 4.3ghz. starting over from the beginning isnt going to make a difference. your chip is going to need whatever it needs.

Failed IBT on 1.295v. I'm going to run blend at 1.3v overnight from now and I'd expect it to fail but we'll see. I remember way back that I had it running at 4.7 at 1.3 but I didn't leave it as that for long as I didn't need it. If it passes blend I'll keep it at 1.3 and see what stability is like under normal usage. Only way to go!

On another note, how long do you reckon a 2500k at 4.7GHz should last before it becomes too slow to keep up? I'm mightily impressed at its longevity but fear that it may start to slow down games in the near future

2500k at 4.7ghz will be plenty power for the vast majority of setups for a long time to come yet. No worries about that

Failed blend after 1hr46 at 1.3v, 1hr38 at 1.31v and 2hr08 at 1.32v. No BSODs, worker three just keeps failing but the others are fine. Going to keep trying and higher increments until it stops failing. Time consuming!

Worker failing indicates your getting close IIRC.  The fact that you are getting more time each voltage increment says to me that nothing else is to blame other than not enough vcore :thumb:

Been running at 1.335v for 2hrs20 and no issues yet. Fingers crossed it keeps going!

Got a problem with overclocking my i7 2600k with my p67a ud4 b3 mobo, seems to be a problem with mobo, my problem is whenever is set voltage above 1,37v)after vdroop it's 1,35 even with llc enabled) in bios it will not boot, even if everything else is at stock the board will just start endless reboot cycle, kind of checked everything but nothing seems to help, I knew I should not have gotten this gigabyte board.... never had a good experience with any single one of their boards that i have owned every one had some serious issues, this seems to be the case again

did you google your problem? it was pretty common on a lot of boards. google and ocn search is amazing.
