Drive Offline Disk While Doing OCE (help)

Thread Starter
I just added a drive to my raid 5 setup and while it was doing the expanding/migrating i got an error saying that one of the drives had a bad sector. Then the drive was marked as offline disk.

Assuming that raid 5 can function with one failed drive i am assuming the migration will still keep going and i will need to replace the defective drive afterwards, can anyone confirm this?

now i am wondering what should i do since i have about 2tb of data on my original raid 5 that was suppose to be migrated. It looks like the migration is still ongoing, should i be worried about my data?

if anyone has experienced this before please let me know because i don't want to lose all my data

Data will be ok unless you loose another drive.

Can you post a screen shot of the event log?

A bad sector shouldn't kick a drive out of the array.
If you added the drive internally, double check all the SATA connections to the RAID card. I bet you bumped one loose.

the drive is still listed under devices, so i assume its still connected so a lose connection should not be the problem.

Double check the connection on that drive.

If I am reading the log correctly...
A bad sector was found. The sector was repaired. Then the drive was kicked from the array and then re-detected making it off-line.

The Highpoint cards are touchy on the SATA connectors due to their tight placement and inline direction. Simply brushing the cable is enough to offset the connector to where it isn't making 100% contact.
