Just updated my brand new M4 and I only get 337MB/s, which is great but not near the 500+ everyone else is getting.
If you look at your mobo specs, you don't have native SATA 6GB/s ports. What you have is Marvell® PCIe 9128 controller which is the worst SATA controller of all time and a complete marketing fraud, claiming to be fast but in fact being slower than native Intel SATA 3GB/s controller.

You made things even worse by creating RAID array on Marvell controller. Its throughput is just unable to give a noticeable performance boost since it's limited by PCIe.

So, to fix this, connect both drives to Intel ports (no problem that they are SATA II only) and install this - Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (and everyone else who still uses msahci driver..).

Also, by RAIDing the drives you disable TRIM support (although Marvell didn't have TRIM even with single drives) and your drives slow down over time. So if I were you I would use them as two separate drives because you will never see a real life difference.

If you decide to use them as single drives, use this tool (from Crucial forums) to force TRIM cleaning - SSD Tool - free space trimmer. And then you get back the preformance without Secure Erasing the drive.

At last but not least, sequential speeds are not as important as 4k!!! It's also just marketing! You need sequential only for transferring large files like movies (now thing how often do you do that?)

Anyway, good luck!

Also, good read from AnandTech:

Thanks for the help XSCounter. I thought it was my board.

I have 4 samsung F3's in Raid 0, a samsung F4 for backup, and my ssd in one of the SATA three slots.

After all the Vertex 3 and other problems with intel firmware on SATA III drives. I'm going to wait a few more weeks just in case before I go to 0009. I know Crucial has a good record and that's why I bought the m4. But I'll still wait, just a little longer. I think that every other SATA III SSD drive Manufacture has has problems so for except Crucial. But this firmware upgrade looks so nice I can't wait.

Oh, so you don't have a RAID array of SSDs? Then it's ever better. Simply plug it in your Intel SATA II port (Should have one more left if my maths is correct ). Single drives operate in AHCI automatically when the controller is in RAID in BIOS. Plus, as soon as you switch to Intel, your SSD will start using TRIM and the performance should increase. You can either just let it TRIM over time or use the tool I mentioned earlier to force TRIM.

Thanks! I have 3 new coasters but I finally got it right on the 4th. I still didn't know what I was doing but the firmware and CrystalDiskInfo confirmed the update.
No noticeable change in start-up. It's just as fast as before. CrystalDiskMark shows just a slight increase across the board. Nothing worth posting a pic. Maybe because the disk is 30% full? Mostly empty disks are always faster.
For some reason the desktop icons have started slightly pulsating at about a 1 second interval. I can't figure that out at all. I reset to AHCI, not that should've caused the slight flicker.
