I just now found out that there was a firmware update.

0002:

0009:

Seems like most of you are getting high 70s for 4k writes. I didn't get much improvement in that department. Any ideas?

That's why this entire thread needs to be kept going. There are way too many people that have never thought to update their SSD's. Or any other device in their computers.

I just hooked up my 64GB M4 today. It shipped with 0009 Firmware according to hdtune. On my Gigabyte GA-770TA-UD3 motherboard, plugged into the SATA3 ports, I'm not getting over 370MB/sec read. Fresh install of windows 7. I double checked that alignment was right.

HdTune is showing that it's connected via Sata2, however. There was a 100MB/sec difference between SATA2, and SATA3 ports, so it definitely made a difference by switching ports. It appears my SATA3 ports use the Marvell 9128 controller. I've read that Marvell and SSD = bad.

Just updated the firmware. Read speeds have gone up, especially the sequential, but writes have gone down. To be honest, read speeds for me are more important so the firmware's good from my end.

They are bad and plus I'm pretty sure you lose TRIM support. You're better off on the native ports, not third party controllers for the SSDs.

Don't worry too much about HDTune results with this SSD, I noticed that the speed results are not even close to the results I get from CrystalDiskMark and AS SSD bechmarks. And yes Marvell SATA ports are not that good. I don't think your SSD is bad btw.

Yes, I did some reading, and it appears the 9128 and the previous chip (9123?) both support TRIM, but not with their own drivers. You must use the win7 standard AHCI 1.0 driver. I will try reverting the driver. It appears my board also has JMicron Sata2 ports on the rear. Can't use them every day as they are external of the case, but will give one of those a shot, as they may do better than the main Sata2 ports.

I wasn't that interested in the speed results, although they were much lower, even when I did 8MB block size. It bothered me that HdTune was reporting SataII when I was plugged into the Sata3 ports. Also, I wasn't suggesting my SSD was bad, but that it's a bad combo to use one with a Marvell controller.

I almost have all of my old stuff backed up/uninstalled/reinstalled on my secondary drive. But, I do have another quick question. What is the best method for backing up the entire 64GB SSD onto my secondary drive in case the SSD were to fail. Ghost comes to mind, but is there anything better, preferably that would backup to a single file.
