Pump Into CPU Fan ? - Page 2

Sorry to dig up an old thread but...

Just to clarify things. I have a Laing D5 Fixed Speed pump. Here's a pic:

338

It has a 3 pin connector with only one wire being used. Is this a tach line that I can connect to one of my motherboard's 3 pin fan headers?

That is correct. The 3 pin female with only one wire is the RPM reporting - plug it into your mobo. The wire should be in pin 3 (Pinout)

The molex male with two wires is the power connector - plug it into a molex plug (obviously).

I know you were not planning to do it but I would like to re-iterate in general:

Never plug the pump power connector into your motherboard header.

Pretty much every motherboard out there will not be able to support the starting current of most pumps and it will cause damage, either the first time or the 100th time.
