I loved my Athlon XP rigs back in the day, and my 939 dual cores. smile.gif But seriously, why would you be looking at "upgrading" into such old and dead tech? confused.gif

I love new tech...but...

why spend $300 for a rig upgrade to do basic stuff?

I had my Athlon XP mobo go bad. I had an old Duron 950 and Celeron 466 (on motherboards) laying around. I'm gonna use the Duron 950 in my Linux music machine (because I have an old legacy ISA card in it...its motherboard has an ISA slot) if the mobo/cpu in it isn't faster. And, the company doesn't make music recording card hardware anymore...so I can't get an upgrade.

There are reasons to use old stuff. The Celeron 466 is gonna be to boot and configure routers with IE on Windows 98SE. All I need is HTML to do that. smile.gif

I used to have a working 286 Turbo 12 laying around too...and the 2MB of 30 pin simms to go in it. wink.gif

lol, my lil Barton is clocked passed a stock XP3200, and wouldn't call it "scream" by a long shot!

It did scream back in its day, but now, it struggles even with heavy webpages.

turns out my software was wrong, I removed the CPU fan to see that in tiny writing it said "Athlon 64 3200+". But still, not too bad for an old one!

Thanks, and I will be upgrading to an Athlon 64x2 4800+ soon so just post what you like about AMD or some stuffs.

You know you can find yourself a really cheap Phenom X2 Chip, or Phenom II X2 chip. Athlon's aren't worth it much anymore.

Which is newer? Xp or 64 2650e?

My friend still uses one, but that's because he got the entire computer for free, so he doesn't even care. He only plays MMO's like LoL and WoW, and he plays them at 1280x1024.

well, if you consider the "Duron Applebred" one, then I still have one, it's basically a AXP Tbred with 1/4 of the l2,
it's a 1.4GHz overclocked to around 1.7ghz (limited by the MB, with the default vcore, I think I could reach 2.2GHz+ with a better MB), a Asus a7s266, with the DDR support dead, usb dead, mouse ps2 dead...
I'm currently using it with some old PC100 memory I found, 192MB... but I only use it to "watch TV", that's around 2 hours per month.

in the past used to have some great AXPs paired with some NF2 Ultra 400 boards,
