My budget is $400. I'm looking for 23"-24" size. Please don't recommend dell U2311H. I've had 4 of them, and all of them were garbage (tinting, bleeding, strong anti-glare coating).
Unlucky. Mine is fine with no tinting, bleeding etc.. (calibration usually gets rid of any tbh).
Anyway, the new Dell U2412M preforms very well for IPS gaming.
There's not much difference. 16:10 would obviously have some black bars in the event that a game has 16:9 cutscenes or something, but otherwise it shouldn't matter.
This is biased. Field of view is NOT the only factor that makes certain aspect ratios preferrable for gaming. There are multiple other factors. I'll get on that later but I gotta go now.
If you want an IPS for gaming Dell is pretty much your only choice.
My knowledge of monitors is admittedly full of holes, but im not aware of an IPS display that is anywhere approaching respectable for gaming from any company but Dell.
You can always look into LG and Hanns-G though. I know the LG IPS displays ive worked with have been fantastic, and Hanns-G just makes good monitors all around.
I'd recommend the HP zr24w. It's a wonderful IPS screen. I have 3 of them set up in eyefinity and I haven't had a single issue. I had one stuck (red) pixel on one of them but that is the only issue.
Dell's monitors are comparable but a bit more expensive. You can pick one of these up on amazon for just over 350 on amazon, or o.co (overstock)

I just posted a thread about this and was redirected here. I was basically looking for some insight on how this monitor perofmrs for gaming and I am worried about the 8ms response time just like the OP. So far there has been one giant argument over 16:9 and 16:10 that I read through and has not helped at all.
I personally play a lot of fps games. This question may help the op as well, but for those owners of the u2311 that actually game a decent amount of the time, how does this monitor perform? I would like to get a dell monitor since I should be able to acquire a discount and the dell monitors look good with some very nice features.
U2412HM is slower than U2311h in games, and ZR24W is a little too slow for games, only casual gamer want it.
16:10 format is not supported by all games, many games is only 16:9.
The only good IPS 16:9 full hd are Dell U2311h, LG E2370V, Asus ML239H, IPS226v and stop. i wait the Asus PA238Q, but i think have some problem to overdrive trailing.
No disrespect, but that didn't answer anything. Even if the monitor is 16:10, you can just put it to 16:9 in game and it will switch it. I think what the OP, and myself extended, are worried about is how the 8ms response time might affect games, specifically more fast paced games coming from myself.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
