First build

Thread Starter
So in the next couple weeks I will be building my first full build pc. I already have a 932 HAF advanced, 750gb caviar black x2 for a raid 0 set up, 1000watt coolermaster silent pro gold, 8gig(2x4) G-Skill X 1600 ram, a hyper 612 and a 2500k cpu. Just not completely sure about the mobo and the gpu. Was thinking a 6950 for the gpu. http://.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102945 and a extreme4 gen3 mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157265 Just not sure if these are my best choices as I would like to overclock to around 4.5ghz(or more) and x-fire two cards, as i intend to set up an eye-infinity set up. I mainly play fps games but also search the web and watch bd movies on my pc. Does this rig about right? I just really want my first build to work nicely for what I use it for and not waste money on parts I later find to be not what I needed. I would appreciate any input. If anyone has better options for me please let me know why i should go that route, as I'm trying to learn as much as possible during the building process.

Case: HAF 932, is not bad and you already have it
HHD: 2X 750gb caviar black
PSU: Coolermaster?? why not get a CORSAIR Professional Series Gold AX850... 850 seems like all you should need. Modular is the way to go.
ram: G-Skill X 1600 ram are a great price and they work great for me!
CPU: ?? Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB?? this one, if so great!
Mobo: I am partial to the ASUS Rampage III Extreme LGA 1366
GPU: SAPPHIRE are solid but I like theASUS EAH6950, I love my ASUS gpus

4.5 should be no problem here is a guide for you.

I agree 100%

@John1016

If you have the money why not pick up a 60GB SSD for boot? And use the WD's for data? You'll really have a quick system then

Ok that's great news, glad to hear it's a decent build plan. The gpu I was trying to keep under $250 and also the asus is a 3 slot card which seems like it would be hard to x-fire, and yes that's the cpu. As for the mobo, damn that one is nice with a price to match, a bit more than I can afford without waiting a while longer, is the AsRock good for overclocking? I've read some reviews that say they are but prefer to ask a real person on this site rather than just belive what a random reviewer has said. I'm just itching to get the parts and get this thing together. SSD's I've read are unreliable and can die any time on you(much more often than HDD's), was thinking that around x-mas maybe they will be alot cheaper and it would annoy me less if I had to return a cheap one.

You would need a 1155 board not 1366 for the 2500k.

The rapage iii is a. 1366 socket mobo, you need a 1155 one
I'd say get a Z68 chipppset as it will be able to support the new 22nm ivy bridge processorrs, not sure if P67 can
As you want to overclock you will need to get either a P67 or Z68 chipset mobo, only difference between them is that Z68 can use onboard video to speed up encoding and also has the ability for SRT, use a SSD as cache for the HDD
If you have the money get the Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z, it would go nicely with your 932s black and red scheme along with being one of the best mobo's out now
If its too expensive go for the Z68XP-UD4, I can recommend this board- if your wondering I'm at 4.4 at 1.34v, didn't get too good a cpu and like they say its the luck of the draw
I've also heard good things about ASRock but don't have first hand experience
