Ram Recommendations

Thread Starter
So its payday (yey!) and Im going to be buying a few new bits for my computer.

I will be buying this motherboard - http://www.ebuyer.com/270603-gigabyte-ga-990xa-ud3-am3-7-1-channel-hd-audio-atx-motherboard-ga-990xa-ud3

This CPU - http://www.ebuyer.com/190673-amd-phenom-ii-x4-955-black-edition-socket-am3-3-2-ghz-6mb-hdz955fbgmbox

and I would like some recommendations as to good ram to put into it. This will be used for gaming.

Can anyone make some recommendations as to the best speed or ram which is out there speed wise for my machine? I see alot of 1600/1866/2000mhz ram but not to sure what to purchase.

Also, is faster ram 2000+ compatible with my mobo? Its says that it will support 2000 when OC'd. but if its not overclocked does it just run at the lower speed?

Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Did you read the reviews on ebuyer about this motherboard?
It doesnt look pretty...
If you look up 1600 mhz ddr3 then look for the lowest cas number you can find.
i picked up 4gb of 1600mhz cas 8 for £30.
you can get much higher frequency memory but AMD does better with tighter timings (lower cas) than higher frequencies.
For what it's worth i got 1800mhz out of the same timings. This probably saved a few quid on more expensive memory.

Be warned:to get the most out of pretty much all the "performance" memory, you will have to tinker in the BIOS

I'm not sure purchasing 1866 mhz would really be worth it for your system. Stick to 1600 and overclock a little to get your money's worth.

Also its almost not worth buying 4GB ram since you can get 8gb for an extra 10-15 quid. Only reason I got the HyperXs and not G-Skill or Vengeance was because I wanted the NH-D14

Just wait 2 weeks for it to be released, no point in spending the money twice.

is quite a sensible mobo, and roughly the same price you had on your other one.
Bulldozer is supported on this mobo so you just hold your phenom for a couple weeks and tune your your mobo whilst you wait smile.gif

If you are going to be getting BD why buy that CPU now? May as well wait, save your money, and upgrade CUP + MB when BD comes out.
