Thanks. It kind of makes sense. They want to merge APU + CPU sockets so users can buy either or. As long as bulldozer rev1 fits in FM2 and APU rev1 fits in FM2 i think they made the right move. Previously ive seen a similar slide where it said Komodo was on FMx though (perhaps they were unsure if they could get it both on same socket?)

I just don't understand where all the dispute is.

I can't imagine AMD realeasing GPU that supports PCI-E 3.0 whereas no AMD CPU is capable of supporting it.

As a matter of a fact I think that AMD is going to release their next GPU and their Corona platform at the same time. ie. within the second semester 2012.

Concerning the socket, the "AMx series" (including AM1, AM2, AM2+, AM3, and AM3+ sockets) are on the market for ages, and AMD has been always guaranteeing a retro-compatibility with older Motherboards and older CPU so far.

Maybe AMD is not able to run another "compatibility-friendly" CPU/socket and is forced to change their policy about retro-compatibility this time.

However, I hope this is a one time transition and that compatibility will be possible in the future with this new platform.

Sorry for my english, I'm French and I'm trying hard to improve my english before going to England next year.

PCIe 2.0 is not even reached full bandwidth yet, so PCIe 3.0 is being released just to nudge mobos to start the upgrade process.

My concern is would AM3+ motherboard would worth buying or last... now since we all saw the AMD roadmap release... Like really in Q3-Q4 of 2012.

I would love to see the end of AMx, c'mon this set up is old. and it has been holding AMD back.
backwards compatibility is okay but it can be moved to a better socket.
this is part of why Intel has been able to stay ahead, they force their fans to an upgrade.
that little niche we are is actually a large amount of money for R&D, we do a lot of their work for them. our little niche needs a new socket, which means better communication with the board, pga needs to die,i would be ecstatic to see AMD pull an Intel once and continue that on a new socket concept.

for someone like myself jumping onto all of this BD hype i bought asus crosshair V. now seeing how BD performs i decided to hold on to my 965 & OC it to the max with my new WC setup. now after being conned into buying this board i would be well pissed if i wouldnt be able to upgrade for at least next 2 generations.

Exactly, I want to get the Asus Crosshair V right now with a cheap Phenom 955 with the intentions of upgrading when the second gen bulldozer comes out. I guess its pretty much a waiting game and need to hold off til we know for sure.
