Corsair HX1000w compatibility

Thread Starter
1. Will the corsair hx1000w PSU fit in the Antec 900 casing? Is it compatible?

2. Furthermore I read that this PSU has dual 12v rails, what does that mean? Is there still one connector for the 12v rail? the mobo I'm thinking of getting is intel DH55HC. I'm getting the larger PSU because I might upgrade later.

3. What kind of wall socket will the power cable require? Three-pin or two-pin? and since it is a 1000 watt PSU will the wall socket have to be heavy duty?

4. Do I need a stabilizer with this psu? coz in my country the electricity fluctuates a lot.

1. It's compatible, but it might be a little long, you might not be able to fit drives into the bottom HDD cage.

2. Read this: http://www.overclock.net/power-suppl...explained.html
Now I'm going to tell you that that doesn't apply since the HX1000 actually has two physically and electrically separate +12V rails--it's two 500W PSUs stuck on one circuit board. This probably won't cause problems for you, but if you were to try, say, tri-SLI of high-end Nvidia cards it might cause some issues.

3. ALL computer PSUs require a 3-pin plug, a device that consumes as much power as a computer must be electrically grounded. You don't need a particularly heavy duty cable or socket, but it wouldn't hurt or anything.

4. Stabilizer?

thanks for the reply. I'm going for the gtx-580. No sli as yet. But later maybe only 2 cards. So instead of the HX1000w would a corsair tx950 be a better investment?

Stabilizer corrects the power voltage if it fluctuates and provides a fuse for proctection against short circuiting, its used here on many appliances not just computers.

When I had my TRI-SLI 580's they were fine with the HX1000 I had, if you're only going with a single or sli 580's, then something in the 850w category would be more in line of what sort of power would be necessary.

I would go for the 850hx instead of the tx950. The 850hx has been rated as one of the best psus (can't give you a link) due to its ability to produce more power than its rated for at very efficient levels. It will be able to power to 580s with no problem. It's also modular which is a big plus over the tx950.
