Once upon a time there were as many sound card makers as there were graphics card makers, but today only one is still alive, good old Creative ... and today the company has announced its first quad core sound cards based on its recently announced Sound Core3D audio processor.

This might sound like total overkill for a sound card, but it's not four identical cores, instead we're looking at very specific audio DSPs that have their own tasks to perform.
This makes more sense.

Asus, Sennheiser, HT Omega, just counting ones on Newegg that make quality kit. A couple dozen entry level offerings. Not to mention Realtek.

It better come with an unlocked multiplier so I can overclock the hell out of it!

Is it just me or do the DAC and filtering components on the card look decidedly less than impressive?

What's the point in huge processing power if the sound coming out of the card is going to be crap regardless?

It's not like sound is really processing intensive by todays standards.
