I'd say... update drivers. Update your BIOS too... might as well. Keep updating stuff until something clicks and it sees the right capacity in Windows.
I was worried at first because I was about to build a really big 6TB Raid10

Update to the latest drivers or get a new controller card. Some older RAID controllers do not support arrays larger than 3TB. A lot of the new 3TB drives come with an add-on card because hard drive manufacturers know that many computers do not natively support 3TB drives.

Of course, you need to use a 64-bit OS and format the drive as GPT too.

ok i finally got this figured out at least if your bios recognizes the 3tb and you have windows 7 8 and probably vista you will need to run diskpart.exe from the start menu... search for it in the search pane... ok once youre in there you need to select the drive delete any existing partitians and convert it to gpt... now you format and at least on my machine it looks like its taking about 12 hours to format it as one huge 2.79 tb partition... took me a while to figure it out or get it to actually work... didnt work on my xp instalation. And all the people who said you can convert to gtp in disk management well i looked and looked and could never get it to give me the option... this is definitely a command window job.... plus if you arent familiar with diskpart.exe i strongly suggest you learn it well its a good bit of tech stuff to know.

I doubt this is even an issue anymore.
