If it isn't a screen problem, then it seems that your PC is putting itself in a low power state to conserve power. Have you checked the Power Saving settings in the OS' preferences you are using?
An alternative would be to reset the CMOS jumper. I've had this problem before.

So I'm like "oh maybe the refresh rate's too high....
so I tried my old CRT (that worked 5 minutes before) and it gets past the loading windows screen....

It boots in safe mode, and it boots into FC5, and my Slax Live CD (which I'm on now backing stuff up just in case...
So what do you guys think is goin on? I don't want to have to reformat twice this week (my second HDD is coming in a few days for raid-0..)
Any help you can give would be awesome. Thanks.
this has happen to me twice before, all i did was plug the montior into the other DVI port and it worked, then just uninstall and reinstall the video card drivers and the other port should work then.

tried the other one...same deal.
If the jumper doesn't work, I'll try reinstalling the drivers...

Yes this could be the problem also. My PC used to go into Power Save because my PSU was a little dodgy. But a CMOS reset fixed it.
Shut off the power totaly, and then do the jumpers. Give it like a minute to rest and then startup, worked for me once giving it that extra time to re-situate itself.

If nothing else works see if uninstalling your plug and play monitor helps any and then boot with the new one.
When you put in the new monitor, Windows will find the appropriate driver. So doing the above may work, yes.
And as to the DVI suggestions above - he said it also works when using his CRT. So it's obviously a problem with the PnP Monitor Drivers. Yes. An Uninstall then auto-detect drivers is the best remedy.
Alternatovely, look for some drivers on DriverFile
I used driver cleaner in safe mode and rebooted without new drivers...I'm not cruising along at 800x600 or whatever...downloading the drivers again and going for an install...hopefully it all works out. Thanks guys.

BUT!
Good news!
My G15, 250GB DM10, and Funcpad just arrived...soooo.. RAID-0 time!
but uh...there's 1 dead pixel in the center in the middle of the top half...(dead as in black)
is there anything I can do or am I sending this piece of junk back?
:-( This is REALLY disappointing.
