HAF 912 Noisy Side Fan problem.

Thread Starter
Just finished putting together one of these. I bought a 4 pack of the cooler master 120mm fans and I've got two front, two top, one side and one rear.
I noticed when I fired it up a whine that I narrowed down to the side fan. To test I disconnected it and the noise was gone. To further test I put another 120mm fan in and interestingly enough the whine is back.
I'm thinking the fan must be vibrating something creating the whine/buzz. Just wanted to see if anyone else has come accross this issue with a HAF 912.

Might be worth getting some anti vibration gaskets, The seemed to shut my 120mm GTs up.

You could get something like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811996019&Tpk=rubber%20grommet but I have the exact same fan (as exhaust) on my 912. I did, however, only put in 2 screws on opposite ends.

Just wanted to bring this back from the dead to comment that I'm experiencing the same thing right now. I thought it was the 120mm fan in my 3 spare 5.25" bays but it wasn't. Next I disconnected the 140mm fan on my side panel and the noise stopped. I begrudgingly replaced the 140 with a 120 and the noise is back, but about an octave higher. If I place my hand lightly over the fan's intake the noise stops. So either it's a resonant frequency it has reached, or the side mesh is causing weird air movement over the fan blades. I'm going to try to distance the fan off the mesh a few mm to see if the noise stops.

I recently tried several fan combinations. I thought a larger fan would help so I installed a 140mm kaze maru 2 1700rpm but that was also noisy at full speed. At 50% it was fine but I wanted the option of increasing the rpms.

Anyhow as an experiment I took my 1900rpm gentle typhoon I had on my heatsink and put it on the side panel and even at 100% its virtually silent.

Im thinking the side panel noise is mostly due to the quality of the fan. Try a GT and see. It worked wonders for me.
