Corsair H100, need new fans

Thread Starter
Got the H100, had good performance, but the stock fans were too noisy at med and high, so I decided to try a push pull with 4 blue LED fans I had that were pretty silent (thermatake 1225) performance improved but I noticed after time (and a reseat of the waterblock due to board changeout) my temps went up.

I think the static pressure on the fans I have was crap to begin with, and worked ok for a bit but then started getting weaker.

looking in to some new fans, trying to stay quiet as possible, and keep blue LEDs

I'm looking at these two:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...?EdpNo=4675264

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...2134&CatId=802

can't find the static pressure numbers on the silenX yet, still looking.

The coolermaster numbers look decent, but the silenX is a little higher CFM with less noise.

I'm looking only at tigerdirect for specific reasons

I also found out that the thermal paste on the H100 was actually really quality stuff, when I removed the block and put it back on I put Arctic Silver 5 on. Combine the fans I had prob getting weaker and not able to handle it, and a lesser thermal paste... and I can now see why temps went up.

I have some paste that came with the Noctua NH-D14 that I am going to try when I go to replace the fans...so hopefully both will help out a lot.

Anyway what do you thin on the two fans I have above?

Gentle Typhoon 1850rpm fans have good airflow and static pressure. Also make sure air is coming from outside the case and through the Rad rather than using air from within the case.

Sadly I have to go through tigerdirect for fans (have an account) otherwise I read on the Gentle Typhoon 15s which were supposed to be good, and quiet.

was just reading about that somewhere else (air pulling in from top as opposed to exhausting out of top). have to see if I can try that out and what effect it would have.

Rigth now I have the 650D with a 200mm Coolermaster megaflow fan in bottom front pushing in, a 120mm rear exhausting out and the H100 push/pull exhausitng out. Not to mention the 2x 6970s exhausting out. The power supply is turned down so it pulls air from outside and straight out, not pulling air from the case. I'll see if I can get some more numbers before flipping the H100 around, and then flip it and post some numbers.

the numbers on the silenX are lies i had some and they wereway too noisy at max, buy the coolermaster R4s, i can vouchfor them, i run 2 at max on my 240 rad in pull, and thier quiet

placing order for them now, going to replace my rear fan too, might as well.

also going to have to test out a seagate low power drive in my system, the WD Black is vibrating and resonating through the case , I would almost be money that 2x seagate low powers in RAID 0 would be quieter

I got the coolermaster R4 fans and they do not play well with the H100 built in fan controller. They also are noisier than my other fans at low speeds by two fold! At high speed they are still quieter than the stock H100 fans at high so thats not bad.... but low speeds too noisy and no temp difference between these and the thermaltake 1225 blue led fans I had... and the thermaltake were rated pretty poorly @ only 42CFM (I think)... but still at full speeds these things (thermaltake fans) are extremely silent and there is not temp difference between these and the coolermaster R4 at low speed. With the TT fans the loudest things in my case were the H100 pump and the 6970 top card fan @ 30% when everything was idle.

The coolermaster R4 also has an annoying hum / rattle at any speed and it reverberates through the radiator and case

One final note when I changed out CPUs and re-did the thermal paste on my block I used arctic silver 5. I seen a 5-7c increase across my cores. At first I thought it needed to cure but after a few days no luck, so I re applied it (used acetone to clean) and still same temps! I thought maybe the thermal take fans were getting weak with the resistance from the radiator so thats why I ordered the R4 fans, still no luck. I finally took some Nt-H1 thermal paste and put it on and dropped 5c across all cores at load!

AS5 was bought at Radio shack so not sure if this is b-stock or old as hell or what, but figured I would warn others.

The thermal compound that comes pre-applied is a very high quality TIM, this and maybe the application method (no offense) may be the reason why you are seeing such a temp difference.

The pre-appled paste is better than aftermarket stuff. It's from Dow Corning.
