My RAM overclock

post #1 of 6
Thread Starter
Manufacturer: Corsair Dominator GT
Size: 6GB (3x2GB)
Speed: 1600 (160x10);
Timing: 6-7-7-18-1t
RAM Voltage: 1.64

I've just done a 12 hour test on MemTest86+ with 13 passes no errors. How do these timings compare with others?

Now which voltages directly influence a RAM's timings? My base clock is 160 and I'm 12 hours stable on Prime95 with that at just 1.2v QPI/DRAM (whatever you wanna call it). Does that voltage affect RAM timings at all? I know the effect that vcore and QPI/DRAM have on the cpu multiplier.

It depends on what model of Dominators and the ICs used, but you can probably do 6-7-6 with less ram voltage (maybe 1.62v). VTT (QPI/DRAM) powers the memory controller (among other things), so it shouldn't need to be increased unless you're going for higher ram speeds, like 1867MHz.

What would need to change to achieve 6-7-6?

Uh... if you're at 6-7-7 right now, you need to change the RAS Precharge (tRP) to 6. You don't need to worry about changing any voltages, but you can experiment with a lower vdimm if you want.

No I know how to do that what I meant was changing any voltages but you answered that already, thanks. 6-7-6 fails after about 2 mins anyway .

Okay . I used to have a kit of Doms myself, and they did 6-7-6 at 1600MHz with 1.62v. But the ICs have probably changed since then.

If you're still interested, you can try loosening the Cycle Time (tRAS) and bumping the VTT a notch to get 6-7-6 working. If that doesn't work, CAS 6 at 1600MHz is pretty good already .
