I'm building a new rig and have been deciding between the popular Ripjaws and the G. SKILL Eco series

imo..yes..however if it's a sandy bridge build..high frequency rules

I just posted this in a seperate thread today, but I cannot tell the difference between 1600mhz 7-8-7-20-1T and 1333mhz 9-9-9-24-1T. Literally. No difference. Fun to brag about, useless in reality.

AMD platforms CAN benefit in increased bandwidth both from lower timings and increased NB clock. You should see my sticky thread in AMD memory. That extra burst of bandwidth (and of course the really low latency) will likely benefit you the most where a lot of items within memory have to be moved around or manipulated really quickly. In video editing, there is a particular benefit. Some FPS (i.e. 5-10, or depending on the game) may also be added by the lower latency. Online gaming performance will certainly be improved due to the lower latency. DDR3-1600Mhz is a great bandwidth sweet-spot on the AM3 platform. Higher usually does not provide as much benefit, especially as higher speed memory usually operates with higher timings. The ECOs shall serve you well, they have served me well for over a year (back in the day when I bought these they cost pretty much the same as generic DDR3-1333 CL9 memory, and I was recommending them to everybody ). It's up to you whether the bandwidth gained and latency lowered by 6-8-6 (capable on this kit) over 9-9-9 as with most kits sold today, is worth it.

I should note that a DDR3-1600 CL9 kit, owing to IC binning, will also usually be able to lower to 7-8-7 timings (probably not any lower).

Most Intel platforms CAN benefit, but only very subtly, from higher speeds, definitely not as much lower timings. Hence, the analogies by pursuinginsanity and Schmuckley aren't really very relevant to this thread.
