Is this barebone PC any good?

Thread Starter
You see I found 2 barebone PC that I was planning to get, well my dad will over "Thanksgiving." (If it'll get cheaper that is)

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...640&CatId=4149

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...827&CatId=4910

and I'm planning to get a video card that is "GTX 460" or another "GTX Cards" that will get cheaper.

Apart from the horrible PSU, seems solid, though if you are not going for the OC tournaments, you probably don't need a 2500k over a 2600k.

What are you planing to do with it?

Looks good apart from suspicious PSU . Looks like you only missing OS and GPU.

How is the reliability of Seagate HDD? A lot of people look down on Seagate yet I see all these bundles have Seagate but not WD or Samsung.

No.
Check the link in my sig called "don't ever buy supercombos".

Try hard enough and you can configure a list on Newegg or other sites with better value than this supercombo kit and infinitely better parts quality. I usually do this every time I see a supercombo and have a perfect record of beating them with better selections for price. Tigerdirect's supercombos are the worst. They can be pretty tough to beat without knowledge of good deals and a good look in the online deals section (though I have done so every time), they usually bork the performance/expandability in one of two ways. One: single channel memory - significant loss in performance vs proper dual channel kit for no extra cost. Two: low end motherboards with barely any capability to run the processor to begin with (this is usually more prevalent on AMD supercombos). Three: Weak and low quality PSU. EVERY SINGLE ONE has a weak and low quality PSU. Some even dare to combine that low quality PSU with a video card - totally unacceptable marketing. Four: slow hard drive (this one has a 5900RPM, any 7200RPM HDD particularly a Samsung F3 1TB would outperform this and probably for the same or less cost. Five: they never ship free, and this is a huge minus as the entire bundle can cost a lot to s hip; if you're like me and usually recommend the same parts over and over again because of cost-performance, you will know some different parts in the same category (particularly big and heavy cases) can ship free at huge savings to the end-user. It's one of the things that make supercombo beating easy.

I challenge you to make a i5 2500k with a decent mobo 4gb of ram a case and a HDD all for 450$.

A single 4gb stick of ram, a low budget case, a Junk PSU and a 5900rpm (read slow) HDD?

Plus that price is AFTER rebates and does not include shipping or tax.
