Best 120HZ Monitor for Gaming, not 3D? - Page 4

27" Glossy: Samsung S27A950 (keep in mind no vesa)
27" Matte: Acer HN274H
23" Glossy: Asus VG236HE
23" Matte: Planar SA2311W

I've done a lot of research on this topic, and I really think this is the best answer. I can personally comment on the Asus and the Acer, and they are both wonderful. MOST IMPORTANTLY, order from an online merchant with a good return policy. Amazon has 30 day return policy no questions asked (at least when the device comes directly from amazon).

The fact that it also has the worst input lag of any 120hz monitor is just icing on the cake. I'll agree that anything below 16ms probably isn't going to be noticed, but once you're past that and at a full frame of lag, people sensitive to that sort of thing can start to notice it.

Oh, and it's possible to turn the overdrive off via the service menu, but then you lose the ability to adjust certain settings and any changes you make are reset every time the monitor is turned off.

I would like to see more proof that the 235HZ is a bad monitor. I have been using one for six months. I am extremely picky with my image quality and frame fluidity.

Those shots are with a 245hzbid yes?

Damn, 24 hours in and nearly 5 pages-- nice!

I ordered the Planar because I honestly think that since Planar specializes in displays that their monitor will be pretty superior. I know there haven't been many reviews so I guess I'll be posting one as soon as I've spent a little time with it.

Wish me luck. I ordered from Provantage.

I actually bought and tried the monitor and experienced the issue as well, so I'm not talking out of my ass here. The input lag and overdrive issues alone make the monitor a piece of garbage compared to other 120hz options. Together, they make it mega-garbage.

So those images are or not from a 235 as they are labeled as a 245? What is you standard measurement for input lag? How do you know its the worst of 120 Hz?

All I am hearing is opinion and a shot of what could or might not be the same monitor model. Which your entitled to have but its not good to claim it as fact. I am generally curious to your source of info. I fear we somehow entered a headphone debate akin to Denons vs. Sennheiser. You come off as a customer who is unsatisfied with their purchase and so far if you have a 235Hz, you are the only one I have met that was dissatisfied.

@OP
I am sure it will be great upgrade! Congrats!

Acer HN274H BMIIID 3D 27-Inch LED Monitor - Black ...
= BEAST

I bought it to replace another 27' Samsung Monitor... the Samsung wasn't 120hz but it was 1ms and very fast.

But the Acer still killed it! O_O The thing is.. I could actually tell the difference!! D: !

Already bought the Planar but any monitor that isn't 120HZ shouldn't be discussed in this thread. I am highly sensitive to refresh rates on monitors and myself more than others will benefit from it, especially since my rig can push 120+ FPS on games I usually play like AC:B and WoW.

The GD235hz and GD245hq are the same exact monitor. They are named different in different parts of the world.

Both Digitalversus and 3Dvisionblog confirm a 15-17ms input lag which makes it the worst 120hz in that aspect. If you google gd235hz or gd245hq overdrive, you'll find many forums posts talking about the oversharpen issue.

You may like your purchase, and that's fine - not everyone is super picky and notices defects, but I'm just stating the facts for people looking for a 120hz monitor and want to avoid a subpar purchase. There's no reason to pay for something that is known to have problems when there's other options out there.

Input lags that I know:
GD235HZ: 15-17ms
GN245HQ: 13ms
HN274H: 13ms
AW2310: 13ms
VG236H: 13ms
S23A950D: 12-13ms
SA2311W: 10ms
XL2410T: 5-6ms
W2363D: 0-5ms
