Best Surface for G400?

is it a general rule optical sensors track best on cloth pads and laser mice track best on hard pads? is there ever any exception to this where a optical mice might perform better on a hard surface?

a few pads i had in mind were qck heavy, puretrak talent, or razer destructor

yes. no. =)

p.s.: Okay, to ellaborate further. For example on a cloth pad the ADNS-9500 (Xai, Sensei, Naos 5000, Kone+) performs around 100-120 ips. Might vary a bit depending on the pad and how worn/dirty it is. On a plastic pad it performs significant better ~150 ips and on a metal pad it goes up to 200 ips. Hence the marketing spec of "up to 200 ips".

Wait for my review on the Artisan Hayate. I'm currently using a PureTrak Stealth but will be getting a Hayate on Wednesday. Supposedly, it's amazing.

I sure wish my Avago 9500's tracked up to 100 IPS on my cloth pads.
