post #1 of 31

So I'm running dead Island on my system and it just won't stop crashing. It runs on max settings perfectly (60+ fps ) Then about ten mins in it driver crashes and recovers twice before hanging the system. 280.26driver and newest dx. Please help. I know it is related to my gfx card.

Dead Island is pretty intense with GPUs. I thought I was completely stable at my OC I was using, since I never ever crashed in games and could run 10+ minutes of Furmark, but thanks to Dead Island I crashed twice. Upped the voltage on the card and it fixed it. I would try upping voltage on your video card (if possible) or downclocking a little bit.

Try a different driver, the 280 drivers have been nothing but a pain for me in Deux Ex, Dead Island and BC2 (and going by threads around, to others)

I've settled on 270.51 as it allows SLI (earlier ones don't for some reason), while keeping good temps, with no loose in performance and it's stutter/freeze free (for me).

Okay I will give older driver a shot. Can't seem to bump voltage on afterburner slider is grayed out. Thanks for three ideas.

A simpler way to try and fix it is to use NVIDIA Inspector to add deadislandgame.exe to the Dead Island profile. For some reason it's only been added as deadisland.exe and so isn't fully supported until you manually add it yourself.

Unfortunately I'm on my phone at the moment so can't link you but I'll be in the studio in about 20 minutes (I'm on my way to work) so can give you a proper reply then if you don't mind waiting a little smile.gif

Essentially mate you want to download this;

http://downloads.guru3d.com/NVIDIA-Inspector-1.94-download-2612.html

When you run it, next to the driver version (about half-way up on the right hand side) is a small button - click on that and it will load all the game profiles within your driver set. In the top left, click in the drop down box and type 'Dead Island' - it will load all the preferences for that game. Directly underneath where you just typed is a green bar, and in white text it should say 'deadisland.exe' in white text. To the right of the drop down box are a series of buttons (off the top of my head I can't remember exactly what it looks like) there should be a button which allows you to add an .exe to the current profile (I think it has a small green cross on it). Click that, browse to your game directory and select 'deadislandgame.exe'. Make sure it appears next to 'deadisland.exe' in the green bar. If it does, click 'Apply' in the top right, close it all down and give it a try.

This isn't guaranteed to work - but it enabled SLi for me on my 590 and now my GPU usage is about 40% higher than it was before. I'm not experiencing any crashes either (I'm on driver set 280.19).
