Setting up my first rig and got this code on the mobo, Q-Code 58 "CPU self test failed or possible CPU cache error. CPU is in there nice and snug. I don't have too much experience with building computers so some guidance regarding how to go about discovering the problem would be great.

I've tried reducing the ram to 4gb, 8gb and tried booting with a signle gpu also.

Here is the system specs:

58 is failed RAM OC. Set the RAM to the factory advised timings and voltages. If those settings are giving you the error, mess around with the timings a bit.

I haven't even accessed the BIOS yet, RAM should be set at factory timings already?

Yeah I read that was a problem that got the same q-code to appear in my google search but I checked my CPU substrate and all the pins seemed fine... =/
post #8 of 8
Same problem here, but my PC worked fine for 4 days.

I got all parts last week:
CPU: i5 2400 2nd Generation
Mobo:Asus P8Z68 Deluxe
RAM: Corsair CL9 XMS Arbeitsspeicher 16GB DDR3-RAM Kit
PSU: Be quiet BQT P9 PRO 650W

Yesterday I turned off my PC and today the PC doesn't start anymore.
Q-Code: 58

Removed graphic card and all other unnecessary devices, reinstalled the cpu (socket pins are good) but nothing helped.

Should I send back the mobo or the cpu?

Regards Wolfgang

Update: Found a solution in another forum:
The memory controller is integrated in the cpu (i5 2400) and if the memory makes problem the cpu selftest failed and the 58 error occur. So I tried one memory module in different slots and voula: If the memory is installed in slot 4 the pc boots normally. It don't solves my problem because I can use only 12 of 16GB RAM now, but its good to know that the cpu isn't bad.
