I just got a HP Laptop with this processor and 6GB of RAM.
It's supposed to be more than twice the speed of my other Compaq Laptop with a QL-64 processor but ***.
Windows 7 64-bit is killing it. It runs so slow. My other Laptop with half the RAM and the QL-64 processor finished installing Windows 7 SP1 30 mins ago and the other laptop with the A6-3400M is still on the first step.
And that is a fresh install of Windows 7 too. I'm extremely disappointed with it. Good thing I got the laptop for $400
And you want to play games on it?

6GB is an unusual number for it. Are you running single-channel?

I haven't checked. It says it's expandable to 8GB. it might be a 4GB and a 2GB.

Telus is giving them free with some promotion and lots of people are selling them. They retail for $550+tax and I got it for $400 brand new in the box.

When I first started it, it ran like crap compared to my other laptop. It comes loaded with all this HP crap though. I just wiped the HDD and installed windows 7 x64 again with a fresh install and I was surprised at how slow it is just doing windows updates.

From what I have noticed it's very slow at installing software. Also how does this CPU work? It runs at 1.4Ghz and it overclocks as needed?

Oh well. I got it for a friend of mine. I'm just installing the software he wants. I thought it was going to be better though. I'm never again buying AMD though. Sure they are cheaper but mmmmm for a Quad Core this laptop is not very impressive.

The Dual core AMD laptop I have which runs at 2.1Ghz seems to run smoother overal. I have not tried games of course because that is not what I would use these laptops for.

Check what kind of hard drive it has.

It is a 750GB (Hitachi HTS547575A9E384)

Anyways it seems that the CPU runs at 1.4Ghz and the laptop overclocks each core separately as needed. But they jump from 1.4Ghz to 2.3 Ghz all the time.

I did find a nice overclocking utility called k10stat and with it I just set the clock to 2.4Ghz with 1.1625v

That's what was needed to run prime95 for 5 mins or so. I didn't test any further as the CPU does hit 80C+

But I doubt any app will make it that hot.

I also did a bunch of windows 7 tweaks and it does seem to run much better now. But yeah if the Ram was in dual channel mode it would run better too.
