(PC3 12800) (PC3 8500) (PC25300) (PC2 6400) What do these mean?

I feel extra noobish asking this, but when talking about ram what does the (PC3 12800) mean? Does it have something to do with motherboard comparability, or is that just with the pin number i.e. 240, 200?

Neither, it refers to the speed of the ram. You're used to seeing this as something like this: DDR3 1600.

It's pretty much divide by 8, but a few a tad off. If you plug it into google, it will come up for you. Newegg also translates them.

Just look up the sticks you want and they will tell you the MHZ they run at like PC6400 is 800mhz, PC12800 is 1600mhz etc... any computer retailer website or ram manufacturer website will tell you the operating frequency of the RAM. I personally ignore the PCxxxx rating and just look at the mhz that the RAM operates at. The other numbers are confusing and honestly not even needed.

I do the same. I wouldn't worry to much about the PCXXX.
