G-Skill 1600 8GB vs OCZ Platinum 8GB 1333

What's the difference? I ordered me some G-Skill Ripjaw 1600 for $39 at the Egg. Got 8GB on the way at 1600. I'm sure I won't see much of a difference.

The reason I bought it is because I plan on upgrading my rig in October or November. So when I do the upgrade all I will need is a new CPU and MOBO. Possibly another 6870 to do some X-Fire. I have a feeling I'll stay with Intel but not sure yet!

Don't bother ordering now. Get it when you upgrade. There may be faster RAM out or there will be an even better sale.(they do it every month) And wait till amd releases the new chips before you decide. Your rig is fine now.

The difference is how fast they run. The G.Skill running at 1600 vs the OCZ running at 1333, if you have the same GB's the G.Skill will take the win. It also depends on the timings of the ram, with those, the lower the better. I myself prefer G.Skill because they come with a life time, no need of proof of purchase, warranty. Idk if you want to post links to the exact ram you are talking about, it would be helpful to see the timings of both.

I agree with this too, there probably will be better ram out there when you upgrade and no need to spend the money and get it before you even need it.

Here's the link to one. Looks like OCZ doesn't make ram anymore. I can't find the OCZ specs!

I picked these up during the sale yesterday also.

I figure the benefits vs my OCZ Gold 1333MHz are:

1.65v vs 1.5v on the G.Skill's - I'm assuming your platinum's were 1.65v too.
Obviously, higher clock speed, though I doubt I will be able to perceive the difference.
More CPU overclocking head room, at least for my i7 - not sure about i5 or AMD.

With the way i7 OC'ing works, I had to actually underclock my 1333MHz ram or else the OC wasn't stable because of the way the CPU:RAM dividers are setup. I would have had to push my 1333MHz ram to 15XX or 16XX, don't remember exactly, but I do remember that the RAM was the weakest link in my OC, forcing me to underclock it in order to reach 4.0GHz.

Should have gone with 1600+ to begin with, but I was trying a budget build and RAM prices were pretty high when I was originally building my system.

Just put in my new G.Skill 1600 memory. Love it! Better timings by far, and easier to overclock.

I'm happy to have gone with 1600MHz and it's way worth it for me. Two sticks at 4GB is nice. Now I have two open dimms I can fill up anytime if need be.
