I cannot exclude that option at the moment, but are you sure it could be partially faulty since I have no issues whatsoever with mu USB ports and all my inputs are working fine except the device recognition part of the firmware update, Should I use a second mouse in the progress as an extra precaution?
After I wrote to Razer support (always a bad idea I guess) about my issue having stated all my progress/experiments-results of my Imperator 4G they responded with slightly awkward message stating the obvious and recommending me to do what I have already done.

"Hello,
First of all are you having an issue with the device right now? because
if you are not, you do not need to update the firmware on the device.
Second if the firmware updater is not detecting the device, go to Start
> All Programs > Razer > Razer Naga > Razer Naga Firmware updater, right
click on the updater and choose run as admin."
Why should I use Naga drivers/firmware with my Imperator and does that fix my problems?
