I actually don't think I have any GFWL Steam games, or I'd give it a try. Have you tried any games that are JUST GFWL, not also Steam ones?

Oops, sorry for the delay!

I got Steam installed and Batman Arkham Asylum, and also GTA (IV): EFLC. I didn't even run GTA, because Batman didn't sucessfully load GFWL. I exited the game and went to the Start Menu program folder for Games for Windows Live and manually launched the application. It crashes. So, voilá, that makes two of us.

Edit: I restarted the system just to make sure there wasn't anything else interfering and tried it again. Same result. The first two times it told me I had a connection error or something was wrong with the Games for Windows Live servers, and when I try to run it the third time it crashes, exactly like it happened before I restarted the system.

I upgraded my test system to 4 GB DDR2 (3,25 GB usable, even on a 64-bit OS - chipset limitations) and went from a Pentium Dual Core E2140 1.6 Ghz 1MB L2 Cache to a Pentium Dual Core E5800 3.2 Ghz 2 MB L2 Cache. biggrin.gif

Didn't notice much difference, if at all, when it comes to booting or application launching or web browsing, but it certainly doubled or tripled my framerates in games. biggrin.gif

Steam had a GTA sale this weekend, and I bought every single GTA game (IV included) for about $20. All the games work except for GTA IV and Liberty City Stories because they're built around GFWL. I can't play the games at all, and I've even restarted & reinstalled GFWL.

I've done some brief searches, and the setup is allegedly being changed to Xbox Live for Windows. XLFW, I guess? Maybe that's why GFWL won't work on 8. Has anyone gotten it working?

Nope sadly not, I seen a advert recently on tv showing Windows 8/ Windows phone and a xbox all working together.

This is what they are planning with windows 8, it will work soon I think at the moment they are busy getting any bug fixes out of the way before they allow GFWL to work properly.

I did not even think of it as a whole new operating system, I just called it windows 7 tablet edition. Now you can use the diverse and productive windows environment easily with your thumbs I thought, windows are now easily manipulated, settings are simplified and easy to adjust, the explorer interface has been made touch friendly by adding the ribbon. This is going to be great!

Except it wasn’t. I don’t have a tablet, and maybe here lies the problem, but I was more than happy to give windows 8 a try alongside win 7, on my acer laptop.

First fail, if I want to boot in windows 7, the laptop needs to reboot because of the graphic interface of the new boot loader.

Second fail, it's not really fast, it may be a beta, but it did not impress me at all.

Third fail, and a consistent and deterring one it is, unless you are on a tablet, the ui will make you cringe, I found it very difficult to navigate through the apps. I could not go back, I could not close the apps, I even had a hard time finding out how to shut down the damn thing.

And then I tried the classic desktop environment, which I found evenly unnaturally hard to use because of the lack of a start menu and the interfering from the metro ui.

NO THANKS MICROSOFT! I won’t buy a tablet, and I am definitely not going to buy your new edition of windows.

This exactly. I've just tried it for the last half hour or so, and the whole experience felt clumsy, not at all visually pleasing and having to do frustrating workarounds to even initiate something as simple as a reboot.

Intuitive is not a word that came to mind here. Too bad.

Think I'll stick to Win7 for my gaming rig and OS X for everything else.
