That sounds pretty thick. Make sure its copper but they sell a bunch of copper shims on ebay that would probably be perfect.

Also Evga says that their hydro copper will work on a card without the IHS. I don't really understand how but thats what they say.

hmm those might work... I think I might give it a try. Thanks!

Also, I'm fairly certain that EVGA has already stated that the HYDRO copper does not work.

now I just need to figure out which dimensions I need. Can anyone tell me the exact dimensions of the heat spreader? I guesstimated by looking at the exposed GPU but exact measurements would be ideal before I order some of these shims. PLEASE HELP!!!!

They told me the hydro copper does work. Can't say I believe them though. Since you have no spreader, I think it is more important for you to measure the area on your card where the shim will go. Especially if you buy a block that doesn't have a square in the copper. Something like the heatkiller.

The EVGA rep I spoke to, Matt from the forum posts who is handling my RMA, said that their FTW Copper Pro cards also require the heatspreader and they do not have new cooling designs yet for cards without it.

So seems like a lot of mixed messages. My source is from their forums, Matthew Hurwitz at EVGA.

Yah this seems to be a fairly new issue. Posts are just starting to pop up here and there. For a company like Evga that is pretty much known for reference cards. Its weird they would do this without telling anyone when it even makes their own water block not work.

This first reo I spoke with was in disbelief and said there was no way they would do this without putting the information out there.
