So seems like a lot of mixed messages. My source is from their forums, Matthew Hurwitz at EVGA.

Did he indicate if they currently have a solution in development? My build has been on hold over two weeks already with this issue. It's been a real nightmare.

Only solution right now is that I'm getting a rep to send me a card with a heat spreader.

Perhaps if there is enough of a problem they might do something about this change and fix it, but right now, it's just a mess.

It may also be put onto the shoulders of the aftermarket manufacturers to change their designs.

Whatever the case, whomever is at fault, a ball was most definitely dropped.

Got my second card and it is artifacting can't even get into windows. So now its try #3. After a long discussion I can keep the first card that works and has no IHS and send this messed up one back. They will cross ship again for free as soon as the tracking info shows up online.

Pain in the butt but they sure handle it all well. New card is going to be stress tested for sure this time they said.

I hope they don't just send me one of your broken cards, lightsout. smile.gif
Sometimes I think companies just keep rotating bad product until some sucker keeps it.

...Oh no, what if I'm that sucker?!

Lol it does seem like that at times. I was all happy that it actually had an IHS this time, then as soon as I popped it in and saw all the blue dots I was like Oh hell no. I just can't win with this damn thing. I've done so many returns since I put my rig under water a month or two ago its insane. Some were because of me but I'm done now.

Thank God evga is fast and close to me.

I think I'm going to try the copper shims as a solution. E.K.replied to me that they have a solution in the works and will be available "as soon as possible". So in other words, there is no real time frame as of now. Now I just need to decide which water blocks I'm going to order and try it with. Can anyone offer any insight into which blocks might offer the best chance for the shims to work? I mean theoretically they should work with any blocks but any ideas or thoughts would be welcome before I spend 200$. I guess I should also mention that I'm already committed to watercooling at this point because I already purchased and then RMA's heat killer blocks at the beginning of this fiasco and have a 200$ credit with performance PC's right now. I really don't want to use the credit towards anything else.

I don't think it matters a whole lot. I personally would try to pick something with a large flat area on the bottom. Similar to the heatkiller. Thats just what I would do but I think even with something like an EK which has a raised sqaure there the size of the IHS you would still probably be fine.

I don't know how performance pcs works but other comapanies once you open the box of the block you can't return it unless its defective. So choose wisely.

This actually just happened to me about a month ago. I ordered a EVGA GTX580 from superbiiz.com. I called Koolance and superbiiz about it, explained the situation and they refunded me the block and card in full, no restocking fees.

Really just depends on which you want to keep or return.

Well I think everyone here wants to keep the 580. I was talking about the little small water cooling stores. The big ones sure they take all types of returns. But some of the smaller shops won't take an open water block just because you didn't want it.
Just putting it out there ymmv.

Oh, I wouldn't have returned them either but last minute, I got a great deal on a 590 and I decided to roll it. Otherwise, I would have just kept the block and found another 580 smile.gif
