EVGA GTX 580 Water Block help - Page 19

I took a couple of pictures of the heat sinks, one from my older 580 and the new one. Now I may be wrong, but both have to come from NVIDEA that way. Maybe EVGA ordered them that way? What do you think?

What still troubles me is the possibility of corrosion of EK waterblock. Should we start using more anti-corrosion additives to our loops?

A shim would work, you can use a small ball of clay to determine how thick the shim should be
just put the ball of clay on your GPU and mount the water block, then remove the water block and measure the thickness of the clay.

Copper shim stock is available at most hardware stores in various thicknesses

This was only with the Nickle plated blocks my copper blocks have had no problem

Glad I found this thread, lots of interesting info.
Its funny how they make these changes later in the production run. I remember the fiasco with the evga gtx285's with the red/black sides and different pcb revisions.

FYI I have a 580 that I bought back in January, with IHS and torx screws on the back.

I'm glad E.K. has stepped up with a solution for this issue.. I ended up selling my gtx 580's that I could not water cooling and picked up 2 580 classified hydro coppers!

It was an EVGA? So far this has mostly been about EVGA, not sure any others have been caught by this yet.

Yeah my card is an evga.
I was thinking, I bet evga is right when they said that Nvidia changed the design. They realized that without a heatpipe cooler, like on the GTX480, they dont need an IHS and could save a few degrees (and pennies) without it. Now we have a direct connection to the die which is almost always better.
