So im trying to hook up my computer to my new TV but in windows it shows up as generic non pnp monitor and if i extend the desktop to it it does nothing, it wont even register on my TV which just sits there with a blue screen. Im using a DVI to VGA adapter and hooking it up to the VGA on my TV. Help plz.

Not sure if this will help BUT last night my receiver wouldn't take the HDMI signal. The reason was that my monitor was plugged into the DVI-D port on my graphics card. I switched my monitor to the other DVI port and instantly the HDMI sent the signal to my receiver/tv.
