refrigerator (TECs ?)

Thread Starter
it have been some time since I heard on TECs and I decided that as soon as I have time to get into it I will upgrade my cooling into this and have some fun

anyway I have a big refrigerator (from the big ones not a mini fridge a 1.7m tall one) and its door is broke a bit so my dad gona buy a new one... anyway I just thought is it working on TECs (or on gas ?)? and can I use them for my hardware cooling ?
My build :)

It uses a half-duty phase change unit which is unsuited for PC cooling unless heavily modified.

If you hear a humming from a cooler, it is all phase change. If you hear a fan, you can almost be guarenteed it's TEC. But TEC's are usually limited to small ice chest sizes. And even those are weak (60W - 120W) in comparison to those needed to chill a modern day CPU (Qmax of 150 - 400W).

Fridge compressors are designed to run for short periods of time for maybe -20°C (Freezer Temps) and they do this really well because they are not cooling any heat from outside of the unit. They are only cooling the inside to the required temp and then they shut off. I'm not sure of the power of these compressors, but it's really weak for the requirements. The point I'm making is, they're not cooling a continual heat source like what a CPU can do.

An air conditioner is more likely the compressor to be used because it is meant to be run for lengthy periods of time until the temperature has been reached. Depending on the cooling power of the air conditioner, the motor may be stronger also (which is most likely in any case).

Then on top of having the right compressor, is having the right gas. I'm not sure what is in a fridge or phase cooler, but I do know they're different for the purpose of yielding lower temps. Asking on the Phase Change section would give you way more details than we can here lol. NoL is one of the gods in there.
