Prometeia Mach 1

Thread Starter
Found a cheap, old, used Prometeia Mach 1 single stage that I bought on a chance that it was working/cheap enough to fix. Took it for a test run and it seems in good working order.

Couple of questions for the experts here though:

It idles at -35C, not sure if this is expected or below normal. I know the Mach 1 uses R134a but not sure if this is the normal unloaded temps.

Anything I can do to improve the temps? How do I know if the unit needs to be recharged and if I do recharge can I change the type of gas it is using? Where should I look at recharging this?

Thanks!

You could possibly take it to somewhere like halfords or a fridge/freezer repair shop. They should be able to fill it back up

The only time you need to add gas is if you have a leak and if you have a leak it needs to be repaired not just recharged.

To answer your original questions:
-35c is fine
Yes you could have the gas recovered and charged with r404, r507 ... r22 and r502 would also work with your compressor but they have been phased out.

The problem is tuning. You need to tune with a load tester not just measuring superheat ect. You will never get your charge right if you cant tune with a load tester.

Thanks for the detailed information that helps a great deal. Where would I find someone with that type of equipment? I have access to a garage with automobile AC equipment any chance I would find a load tester and someone able to use it there? Also which do you recommend if I did change gases? Any problem with mixing? From reading some seem to think R404 is simply R507 with a little R134 mixed in to spice it up.
