Is 3 x 8GB Sniper kits a good idea for my i7 920?

Thread Starter
I was wondering if 3 sets of this G.Skill memory will work with my overclocked i7?

The G.Skill is at 1.5 volts.. is that gonna matter>?

I currently have Corsair Dominator 1600 @ 1.65. 9-9-9-24 Trippe channel.

Would this G.Skill run at triple channel if I fill all 6 slots on my motherboard?

Its an awesome deal and i have a 10% off coupon code that works..

Thanks

EDIT:: I am impatient and didn't want to miss the deal in case they didn't have many kits available. I ordered 3 sets of them. I guess i will see if it will work when i get them.

More memory is very hard on your CPU's internal memory controller and can often times limit your overclock - I also really don't see any time you would ever use that amount of memory. Sure you can claim that it was cheap, but if you're never going to use it, then it was just money down the drain :-\\ yes if you fill all slots with memory, it will run in triple channel memory.

Well, if it doesnt allow me to stay at 4ghz. then i will sell them i guess.. or return them to newegg.

I dont think i will be using all 24gb of memory. I dont have any VM's running.

There was a list of compatable motherboards somewhere for the Sniper kit have a look for it. I believe it was ok for x58 boards

...and I thought my 16GB was overkill

Don't worry, this is Overclock.net... it's all about overkill.

I dont even use all 6gb i have right now.. I think i might cancel the order.. 24gb a bit much. I will save that for my next build.. Which will not take place until the 7xx series Nvidia cards come out.. which will probably be next year.

I just got my second gtx480.. this should last me quite a while.

EDIT. My co-worker is right i think.. He said i am a remorseful buyer. lol

I dropped in 18GB of Mixed RAM, using all 6 slots on my mobo for my 920

Didn't have to drop my OC, raise volts or anything... just bumped up DRAM voltage by a hair and was fine....

I think you made a good move Use ALL the RAM you got

edit; 6GB of RAM is getting closed on soon as won't be enough for high end games and some apps. Trust me, you'll be happy you got the 24GB. Besides it wasn't even that expensive
