Even if they somehow got it to run on the top of the line hardware, say Intel Extreme chips, that would be such a huge investment for such a tiny target market. First of all, the average PC would not be able to use it. Second of all, people with that powerfull of a computer did not buy it to run Xbox 360 games, as those are generally working machines. The people that would be able to take advantage of it would be miniscule and would be a bad investment by MS. And then by the time average household computers can easily run it, we would be towards the end of the life of the next gen consoles at least. Just because they have "all the money in the world" doesnt mean they should do stupid things with it.

The difference is that is MS making it and its much cleaner emulation that people with no connection to the making of consoles have. Like for example you can run PS1 game on PSP though they are very different.

No, PSP does not run PS games. It runs PSP games that are copies of PS games in PSP code, not PS games directly. You cant just throw an image of a PS game onto a PSP and run it.

What? Accurate emulation ALWAYS requires more horsepower than the original equipment. That's just common sense. Otherwise we would all be emulating i7s with old 486s and Amigas.

it is a simple matter of, can Microsoft do it? yes they have both the time and the resources. will they? that all depends on the cost/profit ratio, bill gates has tons of money, but he did not get that way by throwing money at pointless projects ( well for the most part....bob,me.....) if they can find a cheap way to have the games run on a sufficient amount of next gen comps then ya i have no doubt they will. however if it turns out that they will potential spend more getting it to it's release then they will during it's feasible shelf life then they won't

I've used emulators in the past ZSNES back in the day when my pc probably had no more then a 333mhz processor (maybe I upgrade to the 1ghz i dont remember) and it ran games perfectly fine. I don't see how the guy in the article would need a 4ghz pc to run an snes emulator. Why does it have to be so perfect is what i don't understand?

Forget it seriously. In the end, we will know who's right next year. You can't predict what's gonna happen next year. Neither do I, so this discussion is pointless.
In your very limited time here, you still haven't learned one of the amazing truths of OCN... Duckie doesn't speak unless he knows what he's talking about. He's made over 50,000 posts, so he knows a lot about what he's talking about.

Also, Precarious? There's nothing "precarious" about the Gamecube, or its technology.

"You keep using that word... I do not think it means what you think it means.

Because it is a commercial product. A non-profit project and a commercial product have VERY different quality demands. If MS did it, they would no doubt be doing it for profit, and if people are paying for it, it better damn work. Those emulators that you can use as long as you own the system (legally) are not for profit, you are not paying for them and people's expectations reflect that. Why do you think people are upset when games are buggy? They are not working at 100%, and they did not pay for 90% of a product. When a game on an emulator doesnt work, people dont get all upset and go rant to the programmers. They did not pay for it.

look at it like console backward compatibility.

360 was backward compatible with most (but not all) 360 games. but each game had to have a team make sure it would run right in emulation.

the ps3 had to use hardware to do emulation because the creating a emulator for the emotion engine on the cell was wayyy to hard & expensive a task to make it worth their while. thats why backwards compatibility disappeared as soon as they ditched the physical ps2 chips on the ps3.

consider that consoles are all the same exact specs & have the same processing power. writing an emulator for them is much much easier as they only have to make sure it works on that 1 combination of hardware.

emulation of a 360 game on a PC would be much harder since im sure there will even be people with old pentium 4 dual cores who run it & 360 games do not have graphical options.

the only way i see it happening is if it's a paid service (to fund the porting) and it requires minimum specs likely Core 2 Quad, Phenom II, i5 something along that line w/ 4 or 8gb ram & a dx11 card of XYZ generation.
