Got a Problem: Does anyone have the EK-FB ASUS Crosshair V - Acetal - Page 3

Hi guys I recently ordered this same water block and have been reading that we have to place tape on the screw holes off the motherboard or the WB standoffs ....... now I am a little confused as to if you tape the mobo screw holes or the WB stand offs how do you screw the WB to the mobo if the holes are covered with tape or are you supposed to cover it with tape and then screw through the tape so that only the surrounding PCB is not in contact with the block....... sorry for the stupid question but its really confusing for me any help would be appreciated ...... thanks thumb.gif

First check your waterblock whether you already have a revised version. The revised version looks like this:

In case you have this version there is no need for any modification. Otherwise please follow advice located on this link:

Notice: Users running FB ASUS Crosshair V - 06/10/2011

Some of our customers have reported trouble running their computer after installing EK-FB ASUS Crosshair V waterblock and also their workaround for this issue.

It appears that the issue - which has not occured during extensive EK internal testing - is caused when the waterblock copper base slighty touches the SMD elements on the organic packaging of the AMD 990FX northbridge chip. The symptoms are the board fails to boot and hangs at CPU_INIT post diagnostic LED.

SOLUTION: If this issue occurs it can be bypassed by placing a single layer of scotch tape over the SMD elements around the 990FX die.

We're apologizing for the inconvienience.

Hope this helps!

Niko

Interesting Niko! I'll have to do this as well the next time I am servicing my equipment. So far so good though, no more hiccups and running my 1090T at 4.6Ghz. thumb.gif

This Crosshair v motherboard waterblock does not need the stock backplates. Using them increase chances of a shortage. Install all standoffs with screws using pvc washers. Thermal tape comes in 2 thicknesses. Crucial backplates are to be removed
