Looking at getting a TC-P60S30. Here's the link from Best Buy. It's for 1300 atm and I'd rather deal with a brick and mortar store than save 50 dollars from Amazon.
The G,GT,V,VT series has neopdp (pioneer kuro licenses), but the S has not.
Less contrast, connections, and electronics for picture quality.
So its not THAT good, but still beats any other brand Plasmas.
If you need the 60", go for it. If not, buy a smaller G
Buying the 42 inch model of this tv (TC-P42S30) in 8 days, went through at least 100 reviews. Only con i can find is that the contrast ratio isnt 3000000:1 like the new ones. Other then that some people complain about the brightness but that appears to be the C.A.T.S. setting or something else in the menus.
actually now that i think about it i think motion resolution is only 900 lines... maybe for the smaller ones idk, still beats a 720 resolution though.

"Auto Brightness Limiter"/"Brightness Pops"- sudden dimming and brightening of screen independent of power saving features (cannot be turned off). Most annoying "feature". Google this or better yet, ask around in AVSForum. It seems that all plasmas have this since 2010.
"Horizontal Line Bleed" Youtube, google or avsforum it. Even the near top end plasmas can have it.
"Image retention for long periods". It still happens and may persist for a long time. I do not recommend Plasmas for super marathons specially with logos or black bars for hours on end.
Glare - get those with darker screen filters (higher end). Annoying as well specially if you have lights directly hitting the screen.
If you have a small room it really can heat the place up.
Generally have more issues than LCDS IMO.
The few redeeming factors are "price to size", almost no blurrs, barely any input lag (for gamers) and "colors" (SUBJECTIVE).
It still has a place in the market. I just wouldn't suggest it if you're not prepared to have some troubles if you don't really take care of it.
I see none of these problems with my 2010 G20.
These problems are created ones by benchmark monkeys, who cant enjoy watchin TV or movies. Usually bought a LED LCD, and need to justfiy the twice price somehow
Plasma = natural accurate colors, no neongreen grass, or oversaturated colors, no flashy or cloudy, eye stressing backlighting, and no artifacted motion blur all the time. And not only good picture if HD source. Way better with SD, like commercial broadcasts, or low-res divx movies. Simply better to watch. Even a 600x300 divx looks super quality... on _any_ LCD you wold just see flashing blocky and articfacted picture.

most people that complained about this said it was corrected by shutting off the C.A.T.S settings

If you haven't yet OP take a look at some of the reviews around the net on the TC-P##S30. especially those on amazon. most of information i found on this tv was there. from what i get Panasonic makes some of the best plasmas.

this tv has pixel orbiter
only a problem if your windows let in a ton of light. other lighting can be controlled or moved most the time.
max temperature 104°F

LOL for the MSRP i'd get a plasma but that can be a joke as of recent. Just go to Slickdeals and judge from there. Still, most of the time plasmas are cheaper.
All we mention are subjective. I am somewhat sensitive to plasma "flickers" and specially ABL.. hell I didn't even know what that was till I saw it and researched about it. I thought it was a defect! You may just be not sensitive to it and lucky.
Some like dejudder some don't but yeah again.. subjective.
as far as SD channel goes.. both look the same to me.. just that LCDS have "smearing" but no ABL.. ones has to take their pick.
Again, no perfect display, just a better one for your wants and needs.
Im happy to have both (yes just the low ends) at least.
I just want people to know what they're getting into and up to them to weigh out the pros and cons for their stuff.
So until OLEDS become cheaper and better. I bet there won't be a real consensus xD
Won't bleed my heart out though. Im fine with how stuff are progressing.
Go read the CNET reviews. The ST is the best buy this year and is at it's lowest prices right now as they're clearing stock, but the S isn't bad at all. I think Costco, Sears and Target will give you a better price on the ST though and the difference is pretty significant.
Edit: To better answer your question, most of those "general plasma" issues outlined above aren't issues anymore. I don't know what the competition is for the S series as Panasonic is the only plasma game on the block, so I'll assume you mean LCD/LED.
Pros: Better blacks, wider viewing angle, better contrast, fewer motion problems/no soapy movement, more accurate color reproduction, no rainbows, no blues on white or "spillage" leds have due to the lights, near perfect 1080p/24 motion, near perfect screen uniformity (LEDs will bleed at edges)
Cons: Not as bright, some ghosting, less saturated color, will get a little darker during the first year but will level out once "burnt in."
Compared to the ST series the blacks aren't as good, color not as good, and the ghosting is more or less resolved with the ST, which most reviewers compare to the even higher-end, THX certified GT series. Easily the best buy right now.
