Paint it pearl white. You know you want to. That or candy coat it

I'm actually using Rust-oleum spray paint products and am trying out mat white first to see if it looks good, but I do have gloss clear enamel I might do a final coat with if I don't like the results wink.gif. Or maybe I'll leave it to a vote! So feel free to leave your 2c.

Edit: On a side note, although not related to the build or even worthy of it's own post for that matter. This is what I found today when I was looking for my coworkers sunflower seeds...

wth.gif Yes, yes that is a half eaten piece of cake shut in a drawer that is hard as a rock. kookoo.gif

Edit: Good news, the cake has been claimed by our wonderful on site IBM rep. tongue.gif

UPDATE:
After putting a few parts together I was seeing a lot of scratching and wasn't entirely happy with it, so I'm in the process of adding a clear-coat to see if I can limit the scratching. Should add final coat (2/2 just to ensure coverage) tonight and then have it pieced together tomorrow for the most part. I also have 2 pics of it minus the clear coat that I will upload possibly tonight. Side project is I have gone to exclusively Ubuntu on my laptop (speed+educational purposes), so I have to get a few things synced up/learn the GUI/OS to do various things while my PC is temporarily out of commission.

UPDATE:

So I'm finally almost done with painting but not without countless blunders along the way. The good news is most painting errors can be fixed with a bit of sanding and determination. The bad news is since I opted to not take out the rivets it makes sanding especially dangerous as I can easily sand through the paint and not be able to repaint it without over-spray onto all of the other panels... I have never used spray paint on a project like this so I kind of expected it to be a learn as I go process, I wasn't at all disappointed. When I'm done with this log I will link a painting guide containing information I have learned from this process. In the mean time anyone on the verge of painting, I HIGHLY recommended taking out rivets if you want to achieve the best quality paint job in the least amount of pain possible. It seems daunting, but if you do not have a lot of experience with spray paint it can quickly become a night mare by leaving terrible looking over spray on adjacent panels as well as gloss/clear-coat's viscosity causing it to run all over the place and look like complete crap. On to the update.

drum.gif
Finished up the paint but after assembly decided to give it a clear coat to aide in some scratch resistance, but grabbed a few pics to keep y'all interested:

20111104001558.jpg

Re-disassembled and have part of the gloss down:

Unfortunately this panel had to be redone due to the finish being ruined by over-spray. I have a new process where I tape off a panel once it has been completed and gives everything a nice shiny finish while letting me work on one level panel at a time to avoid the thin viscosity of the clear coat from running.

Hopefully I will be able to have everything finished by ~Tuesday just in time to pick up saints row 3 and have some fun since my PC has now been out of commission for a few weeks...

After I finish painting the internal frame I believe I will start to work on painting the fans and a few other pieces as well as place an order for some white anti-kink coil for the H80, vinyl for the heat-sink shroud of my GTX 580, H80, and PSU (maybe). Although i am still working on mapping out the color scheme so color patterns are subject to change in order to keep a good balance.

What TOS did you violate to get your pics removed?

Ugh, because image shack is crap and I went over their limit. What is a good free image hosting site that I can use to upload photos? I have them all backed up, but still a pain.

Edit: Pic's will be back up momentarily!

UPDATE!

First of all I would like to apologize for taking such a long break from this build, I got quite overwhelmed by work school and various other activities to try and stay sane (yes I may have bought Skyrim and BF3 tongue.gif). But I plan to work on this slightly more regularly and try to make decent progress every 1-2 weeks. Painting took up most of the time over the past month, I like the look of the gloss but I am not happy over all with what spray paint has to offer. If I can find a good deal on powder coating somewhere in Oregon I will drill out the rivets, sand blast it and have it done "properly". I also may powder coat it myself at home since my dad seems to think the fumes in our oven isn't a bad idea lachen.gif.

Case painted and mild cable management done:
450450450

Once I get most of the aesthetics out of the way I will reconsider the lighting and make sure it accentuates everything properly. Right now I am currently working on installing the top rad grill (needed hardware). Then I will paint the fans and order some various materials as well as MDPC-X sleeving and start custom making some cables since that will take a while. smile.gif
