Keep in mind the XSPC pumps are majorly unreliable... if you haven't already got an aftermarket one it might be a good idea to do so

I will see how it holds up, again, money is a severe issue here...

ideally I would prefer to have a smaller, lighter pump and res, but this is what we have.

Just thought I'd point that out since you said the H50 was unreliable lol, it is a real shame you are on such a tight budget though, having a bit more money would help... you'd sorta expect to have heaps of funding with you being in an engineering department haha

that would be true if I was at a large well known school I suppose, but sadly I am not. :-(

1. Windows 7 uses around the same amount of resources lol
2. Have another read, you'll see what he has to power it, which I think is really cool

A) since when is xp more reliable? And they have about the same footprint... 7 is actually lighter when cleaned up. also, I would not want to use xp with the newer chipsets. 7 is just nicer and easier. We will likely be using a Linux distro in the competition either way.
B) there will not be one one te boat. Battery is DC, and PSU is DC input. We have one on order for soft testing though.

I bought a power meter because I was curious! (about my own rig as much as this one)

this is all with just the air cooling and no USB devices:

Idle:

idle VoltAmps:

idle Watts:

Load:

load VoltAmps:

Load Watts:

I am satisfied

edit: I am NOT happy with this though:

http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...-locks-3d.html

The machine CONSISTENTLY locks up when starting 3D apps... I need advice, ASAP! thanks guys...

That's quite impressive power numbers. Can't offer much help on the locking problem, though. Perhaps the apps require more power?

i like the power usage i wonder if thats gonna change as for your lock up problem i bet it comes down to the chip jsut not having enough kick
edit: ps try unplugging the monitor and see the watts from the wall i bet it gets lower becuase the pc doesnt have to produce an image
