A Deer Chaser, or Shishi Odoshi, is a traditional Japanese Fountain usually made from bamboo. A tube fills until it tips over and spills out. The bamboo strikes the basin or a rock either as it tops out or flips back up making a percussive sound that keeps deer away. It was commonly used where deer may eat crops or plants, but these days is looked at more as a Zen meditation fountain.
A client approached me about making a large reservoir and I mentioned the idea of putting a Japanese fountain style water feature in the reservoir. And just to make it a bit more challenging and fun to look at I put two tipping tubes in the reservoir, two basins, and sheet waterfall to make a curtain of water in front of the tubes.
To mount the reservoir and make a place for CCL tubes I constructed a base from acrylic that sockets around the reservoir. I used UV reactive Blue acrylic for accents throughout.
The outside dimensions as 15" tall with the base, 6" deep and 9" wide.
