Asus Maximus IV Extreme Boot Problems

I have built a new system recently. It is a ASUS Maximus Extreme IV with i7 2600k (Which is fitted correctly) and a Zotac GTX 580. The GTX 580 doesn't have a VGA port, could this stop me from entering BIOS? I got no Monitor signal and I get error codes on the debug led as well. Each A2, A0 and 64.The Q Led tells me there is a problem with the VGA port and the Boot Device. Error code A0 is IDE Initalising and A2 is IDE Detect. Is this the Hard Drive that needs formatting? And 64 is CPU Initialising. Which sounds perfectly normal ... except it locks up and freezes.

Should I just RMA the Mobo then? Please reply

Especially when multiple problems exist, best thing to do is to bring it back to the reseller and let them handle the rest or simply RMA the product directly with ASUS.

P.S. As for the video output, have you tried and see if DVI or HDMI port works so you see get into BIOS and make changes?

is the harddrive new or old? reformatted, or has a previous image from a different cpu/mobo?

have you tried the gpu on multiple pcie ports to get a signal?

I run strictly HDMI from my GPU to monitor and have no issue.

To me, it's literally impossible to get into BIOS because of the error code. Even if I had an error code, are you supposed to be able to go on BIOS. But yeah, RMA is a last resort, bought the mobo on eBay and the only proof of purchase is the SN. And there's me thinking I'd be playing Crysis for the weekend. I try to connect using both DVI and HDMI, but no response at all. I don't even have the beeping code things on startup. I'm gonna do a few things which could make it work such as formating my hard drive and reseting the jumper. Thanks for the welcome, will reply soon

The Hard Drive is new, but reviews online show that I may have to format it, in order for the mobo to recognise it. I will also give the GPU shifting a try. The fan works on the GPU so I think that rules out static. Will also clean the pins with a rubber as well. I still get the VGA Led though, what the feck does this mean? Truly to connect through both DVI and HDMI. Got a few things to try. This will keep my busy for the weekend haha. Thanks for the suggestions

Might also throw the gpu in a buddys box and make sure something didn't happen to it?

My board recognized my brand new SSD without formatting, but I guess it's possible. Either way you should still be able to get into the BIOS.... well provided you didn't have the GPU issue.

I would try what we mentioned already, but I smell an RMA coming on. Hopefully some jerk didn't sell you a bum board.

Did you make sure the 4 switches are on for the pci-express lanes? They are right by the reset button. They all should be in the up position.

The hard drive doesn't matter as the bios will still see it. and you can either format it when you install windows or slave it and do it in windows, by creating a simple drive.

The ASUS warranty eliminates all disadvantages about 2nd hand stuff, pretty handy for those whom have this problem. All ASUS require is the SN, Seller Information and Sell date for RMA. I'm just happy that I'm able to get support off this guy on eBay, regardless of whether he already had the money.

On another note, thanks everybody for replying, shows that there's help for noobz like me on the internet. If anyone, encounters this problem, you've most probably got a Mobo problem. The likelyhood of you actually having a GPU problem is very slim.

You say you bought this from Ebay, my advice before RMA is try a clear CMOS if you haven't already.
