I have one question though and perhaps it is a bit silly to be asking on this forum.

Has anyone managed to get stable operation with stock settings all on Auto?

I just want to get an idea of whether it's some other hardware i have which is by no means exotic that is causing the random lock ups and BSOD.
Sometimes I go days or weeks with nothing and other times once or twice a day it happens.
I've actually found overclocking is more stable than stock??

Kinda frustrating that if you just want to go stock it's not even fully stable.
I tried the auto and it didn't work. For me the key to getting a stable overclock was messing the the VTT (mine is like 1.129 and happy at the moment)

I also wanted to say hello to everyone. I have been a long time lurker and finally decided to build a new machine. I just got my board Tues so my system is not fully built, but I will report back how the build is going once I start.

Welcome!

Welcome!
If you're running high density (>= 4MB) DIMMs or fully populated slots, increasing VTT/vccio is a must. I also need 1.129v VTT for a stable overclock with my 4x 4GB Gskill Ripjaws

Thx for the info. I will be running 16GB of Vengeance (4x4Gb), so I will update my VTT when I start to OC. For now I plan on running stock just to make sure things are stable.

Guys, whats the length between the 1st PCI-E and the second PCI-E on this board or the Extreme 4 Gen3 (should be the same)?

I need to know asap to get a crossfire bridge long enough for it, I'm gonna have to order it from England and I have a deadline (before 1st of November) ..

I'm wondering if VTT should be upped even with stock settings when you are using 4x4Gb. I was getting freezes and BSOD out of the box quite randomly at stock settings.

So I've started some light OC at 4.0Ghz initially using the "load optimized settings for..." option

Gradually increasing VTT to see if it holds. Only at 1.077 right now. Prime95 was fine for about 2 hours. No issues for almost 24 hours now.
Not thrilled with the auto OC settings though as my vcore peaks at ~ 1.384 which seems higher than most posts i've seen with greater OC's.

Update: lol, well so much for that... 1 hour after i posted system froze. upping VTT another notch.

Keep us posted on where you stabilize out. Maybe complexlogic's 1.129 is the magic number.

I don't know if the ASRock bios has it, but if there is memory turbo in there, make sure it's turned off. 'Optimized' tells me that it's probably raising the speed somewhere in there, causing the issue. VTT might help, I read that 1.20 is max/safe. Also, are you setting your memory speeds (both multiplier and timings) manually? Highly recommended. (not just by me). Don't let it run 'auto' or 'XMP' if you are having stability issues.

Sorry I'm a pretty green at this stuff but i'll take a look. Don't recall settings about memory turbo.
Memory speeds are at auto. CPU-Z shows:
dram freq - 667 MHZ
FSB - DRAM 1:5
9-9-9-24
CR: 2T

Not really sure what to change there. All i know is the same timings are listed on Corsair's site for this kit, CML16GX3M4A1600C9B.

Looking through the tips on The Sandy Stable Club page. Will experiment with the info there.

I'm having issues with both of my drives on this board... SSD hangs forEVER at boot up during windows logo. Sometimes freezes there and requires restarts. And my other drive is reporting interface issues.

Hopefully it's just cables... going to change cables + make sure they're all snug this weekend. If not, then maybe my board has some bad sata ports. Only issues seem to be on the Intel SataIII_0 and _1 ports. PLEASE BE THE CABLES! lol

1.48 volts gets me stable at 4.9 with a VTT of 1.129.

Ah yes, and the pictures:

I didn't update the pictures since my other fans came in, so one difference.... I moved the 3 120mm fans from the radiator in the pictures to the side of the case and put the 6 Yate's in a push/pull on the RX360 radiator. I have a total of 13 fans.

Ambient temps are around 18c and highest temps I've seen while running prime95 is 59c

This is a dedicated folding rig, I'm running bigadv and my temps are only at 53c!
