Looks great by the way. Are you planning on building grilles for them too, or leaving them naked?
The tweeters are flushmounted from the back with 4 screws.

I thought about grills but probably not as I like the look without them.

well guys i got them done and they sound and play awesome, but they take a lot more power then i thought so i don't know if the tv can power them with the 10 watts it puts out. i didn't take any more pics as they are the same as nothing changed other then the crossover is inside.

I naturally assumed that you planned on using a proper amplifier.

Yeah, the TV amplifiers are generally okay, but really weak on power output. Hopefully you get it solved.

lol i got them hooked up and come to find out they are just fine. who woulda thunk

i did have them hooked up to my yamaha htr-5930 receiver in my room for a couple hours before i hooked them to the tv and they took more power then the speakers that i use in here. but i am assuming its due to the efficiency of the small woofer.

I saw this in your signature so I popped over from another thread to see the project speakers. You did a fine job! Wondering, what did you end up paying out for everything from start to finished item(s)?

heh more then i wanted.....

for all the speaker/crossover parts probably in the neighborhood of $110 + shipping then what ever it takes to make the box. box making drives up the cost when you need to get new bits that are like $15 a piece. all done and said i think it was around $250. it sounds a lot but nearly half of it was in tools i can use for other projects. if i had all the tools i could of done it for something like $150.

$150 isn't too bad. I know what you mean as you could have bought a all ready built book shelf speaker system for the same price, but the experence you gained in building them is invaluable. (And the new tools you will always use.) I have a old JBL down firing sub woofer that I need a new amp for. This is just an extra sub as when it went down (a couple years ago) I replaced it with another JBL, but the one with 250 watts and I think a 12" woofer. Anyway, I want to fix the old one and have been looking all over for a plate amp for it. It was a 100 watt amp that was in there and I see Parts Express has one for $60 that has 70 watts. That would make a good replacement. My thing is why do these plate amps cost so much? I have been looking all over and once you hit the 100 watt plate amp the price sky rockets to the point you could buy a whole new sub-woofer for the same price or cheaper. I'd like to repair the one I have as the sound from it was amazing. (And then I can have a two sub woofer system...biggrin.gif ).

So, any ideas as to anywhere else that sells plate amps at a more reasonable price? I'm willing to build one in kit form if there's such an animal (where's the old Heathkit or Knight kits when you want them?) (Geezzz, that shows my age.)

these were actually my 2nd pair of speakers i built. my fist ones are used in my room for my computer. i really built these because i was board during summer and wanted something to do. these replaced some heavily abused technic speakers that had one woofer blown. as for the cost of amps, its just the way it is. imo getting a 240watt at 4ohm amp for $120 is still cheap.

Yup, I can understand that. I do the same when I'm bored, I find a project that will keep me busy. Sometimes I bite off more than I can handle...lol...

240watts for $120 is not bad at all. I wish I could find something like that in a plate amp so I could just take the old one out of the enclosure and stick a new one in. I'll find something...
