just destroyed my das keyboard.. (derp)

Model S. one of the older ones. it had the problem of not always being recognized in windows and would wreak all kinds of havok on any other usb devices i was using at the time. i dont know if it was drawing too much power or whatever but i decided i would open it up and try to 'fix' it. bad idea.

long story short the daughter pcb ended up pretty much destroyed. i rang up the number on the website and apparently they dont offer any replacement parts whatsoever. im guessing that they dont actually manufacture the keyboard themselves. id really like to get my hands on a working daughter pcb, preferably one of the newer ones. as it is right now ive got 104 perfectly good cherry blues collecting dust. what to do?

Welcome to OCN

That sucks to hear. I had the same problem with my G13. It drew too much power I believe, from my USB hub (which is powered). It caused it to not be recognized by Windows, and made the LCD screen, and key colors blank, and pinkish grey. I'm never plugging a mouse or kb into a powered USB hub again after that. Needless to say, Logitech being as awesome as they are, sent me a replacement no questions asked.

yeah, they offered to sell me a replacement keyboard at reduced cost but it kills me to have 90% of what was a great keyboard sitting around collecting dust. id really like to repair it. apparently its manufacured in taiwan which probably means im SOL on getting a new daughter pcb.

if it comes down to having to buy a replacement id probably just go for a filco tenkeyless and try to ebay the remains.

Yeah my old das did this too, i couldn't use a usb soundcard if i had it plugged in. They fixed that issue i hear.

My guess is you're probably better off selling it for parts to a modder and getting yourself a new keyboard.

My Das Model 3 was flakey with USB either (frequent dropouts). Had to RMA two of them. Supposedly fixed with the Das Model S.

Thank you so much. I had to move my PC far away from me on a table (I didn't want to put it on the floor ) . Because of that, none of my USB cords reach. So I was about to buy extended cords but then I remembered my Mouse Bungee (ROCCAT Apuri) is also a 4-USB hub. I've been using it but my devices keep disconnecting when too many are plugged in at once. I was about to buy a wall-plug (the one it comes with is non-American) to give it more power. But because of you I won't be doing that now and I'll just buy longer USB cords. Thank you!

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread but I am having a similar issue. Windows keeps dinging when it un-detects my das keyboard (brand new). I have never experienced this issue with this current computer and two other keyboards.

Sigh.

Will be emailing them soon about it.

Why yes I'd say this is an old thread.
